...8-18-2001 Dottie Himes printed off History of Frederick, fr "www.cityoffrederick.com/history.html"
It stated that the formal beginning of the city are traced to the laying out of Frederick Town and its settlement in 1745. There were settlers who arrived in the area prior to this. It was in 1725, that Benjamin Tasker patented "Taster's Choice", the first of many land speculators in the area. Daniel
Dulany laid out the new town hoping to develop a center of trade and a market for goods imported from England. It was not difficult to recruit families in Europe willing to try their luck in a new land. JOHN
THOMAS SCHLEY arrived in Frederick Town in 1745 with a group of 100 settlers and built the first house here. Others quickly followed and the town prospered. From the beginning, religion played a large part in the life of the town, and three churchs, Luthern, Anglican, and Reformed (founded by Schley) were firmly established. It was not long before temporary housing gave way to more permanent buildings, and businesses serving the citizens were established. The County of Frederick was founded in 1748.
(above info relates to this:Generation 1 : William (Willem or Wilhelm) Heim, the father of Francis Himes)

He became a skilled workman but never practiced his trade as used it directly. He made a tour through the West on horseback as far as the creation of Chicago about 1836. He even went into Merchandising after his marriage, in 1836 at Intercourse, Lancaster County, PA, but soon came to New Oxford, PA about 1838 to manage his father's increased business affairs. He became a first class businessman, of versatile and varied ability. Paul Heim was in Ireland with the 1709 group, he returned to Germany 1711, came to America 1727. All were from Mutterstadt, Germany which is located southwest of Mannheim.

3-3-02 Marguerite Crist Calvin (cristcalvin @ohiohills.com) sent another email with a German worded Passenger List by Boyer. Most of which was hard to translate and she thought it said that Wilhelm Heim was born May 10, 1715 (which was found later to be the birthdate of his nephew Philip Groscost). There was more information but mostly in German which I could not decipher so I have sent an email back to her to get it in English. It listed a Charles A. Groscost, and Kinder, zu Mutterstadt, geboren: may mean kin born in Mutterstadt
Philip Groscost and Anna Margaretha (Heim) Groscost children:
1) Wilhelm Groscost b. 10-5-1715 (May 10, 1715) Paten Wilhelm Heim, ledig und Anna Margareta Reisinger, ledig. (Sponsors were Wilhelm Heim, unmarried and Anna Margaretha, unmarried---perhaps )
(not sure but as of 4-10-2002, it seems that Wilhelm Heim b. abt 1710 father is also Wilhelm and we do not know who this Anna Margareta Reisinger is. Wilhelm had a sister named Anna Margareta Heim which was probably named after her)
2) Christoph (Christopher) Groscost b 15-2-1717 (Feb 15, 1717) Mutterstadt 15-2-1735 mit Johanna Steiger T. D. Schultheissen zu Mutterstadt Johann Theobald Steiger. Bei Der Vater Burger in Pennsylvanien ist.
(not sure but T. D. Schultheissen must be the Minsters and Johann Steiger is Johanna's father)
3) Anna Elizabeth Groscost 19-3-1719 (b. Mar 19, 1719)
4) Philip Daniel Groscost 8-11-1721 (b. Nov 8, 1721) Paten: Philip Daniel Saar und dessen Frau Elixabetha (Sponsors were Philip Daniel Saar and wife, Elizabetha)
It also said that Wilhelm Heim was a brother to Ann Margaretha Heim and Hans Paul Heim.
It said that Ann Margaretha Heim was wife of Philip Groscost
It said that the Sponsors for Wilhelm Heim was unmarried(ledig) and Anna Margaretha Reisinger was unmarried were on the ship in 1727. (4-10-2002 Dottie Himes found another ship record that shows there were two Willem Heim's on the ship "Thistle" 1730, perhaps one is the father, and one is the son.)
It mentions also on the Ship: Charles A. Groscost, emigrating to America, Question, is he the father of Philip Groscost who married Anna Margaretha Heim
(AS OF 4-10-2002 Stewart Hinds also interested in the Heim family and knows German translated the German worded Passenger list by Boyer and the date of 5-10-1715 was the birthdate of Wilhelm's nephew, Wilhelm Groscost, the first son of Wilhelm's sister, Anna who married Philip Groscost. He
was born May 10, 1715. Wilhelm was born about 1710.

=========================================================================THE ABOVE SHIP PASSENGER LISTS, PENN AND DELAWARE 1641-1825 BY CAROL BOYER JR. was translated by STEWART HINDS (sthinds@netzero.net) 4-10-2002
Wilhelm Heim came from Mutterstadt and emigrated on the same ship as Phillip Groscost and witnessed Phillip Groscost's oldest son's baptism. Wilhelm Heim's birth entry is not to be found in the church register of the Reformed community of Mutterstadt. This register refers to only a few names at the time in question. It may be that Wilhelm Heim is a brother of Anna Margaretha Heim, wife of Phillipp Groscost. Moreover, Wilhelm Heim is probably a brother of Hans Paul Heim, who was christened by Jeremias Hess. Lastly, Wilhelm Heim's son Johannes or Hans, who was born in Mutterstadt on October 7, 1712, arrived at Philadelphia on the ship James Goodwill on September 27, 1727 with other family members. Did he give the suggestion to the family to emigrate?
The emigrant Philip Groscost was married to Anna Margaretha Heim. They had four children born to them between 1715 and 1721 in Mutterstadt. The godfather of their eldest son Wilhelm Groscost was Wilhelm Heim, a passenger on the same ship. Charles A. Groscost, a descendant in America, converted to the Mormon church from the Reformed and lives in Toole, Utah. Also other descendants are still living in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Children born in Mutterstadt to Phillipp Groscost and Anna Margaretha Heim Groscost :
1. Wilhelm Groscost, b. May 10, 1715, Godfather: Wilhelm Heim, unmarried, and Anna
Margaretha Reisinger, unmarried. //Note from Stewart: I don't understand the relationship between
Wilhelm Heim and Anna Reisinger. No connection is indicated in this passage//
2. Christopher Groscost, b. February 14, 1717; married Johanna Steiger on February 15, 1735. By the closing of the marriage in the church register is remarked, "The father (Philipp Groscost) is a citizen in Pennsylvania." //Note from Stewart: I can't translate T.d. Schultheissen. I think it is a name of the
minister. Johan Steiger must be the father of Johanna Steiger.//
3. Anna Elisabeth Groscost, b. March 19, 1719.
4. Philipp Daniel Groscost, b. November 8, 1721, godfather Philipp Daniel Saar and his wife Elisabetha.

STEWART HINDS also wrote: I don't know if my family is descended from Wilhelm Heim or not or the Heim family at all. I think it might have been. Our family name was Hind without the S in earlier records and may have once been Heim or Hein. I think we might be connected. I don't think they were associated in any other way than by blood relation. I don't have enough evidence, but my family appears to have come from Pennsylvania to the Valley of Virginia. They were Presbyterians and such folk did not usually come from the Tidewater, but from Pennsylvania. There were several William Hinds each generation so it is hard to pinpoint, but the only close person by that name at the time in PA is William Hine of East Vincent.
Do you remember that Land record of 1737 I mentioned earlier. The land record shows he (Wilhelm Heim) lived next to Nicholas Keyser and Gerhard Brownbaugh. This area was heavily German. Brownbaugh gave his name to the Brownback church at which John Casper Stoever ministered. This church was also called the Warwick congregation. Chester County was mostly English Quaker except for the north along the Schuylkill river which was German, reinforced by heavy German enclaves right across the river.
There is a book on the German churches (PA German Church Records) by Glatfelter that tells of the Brownback or Coventry (Warwick) church. There are many Heims, Himes, Keims, Hines, Hains in these areas. You mentioned you wanted to find out who Wilhelm Heim's wife was. Have you seen the small Book by Annette K. Burgert? It is titled Pennsylvania Emigrants, Early Pennsylvania Pioneers from Mutterstadt in the Palatinate. It has a Wilhelm Heim on the Thistle of Glasgow, 1730. I'll give you a copy of the page, but the gist of it is that his wife was named Judith. It also mentions the Stoever baptism records we talked about. I can't remember where it was in the same book ( I'll go back and find it ) but it says Wilhelm Heim had a brother Hans Paul Heim, who lived in Ireland for a time, returned to Germany and then went to Pennsylvania. The book states that Hans Paul buried several children who died in Ireland. There was a group led by Joshua Kochertal of Palatinate Germans and French Huguenots that came to America in 1709. Someone had mentioned this group was in Ireland for a time and the Heims were probably part of this group. I will be researching this more to get a better picture before I say more than I know what I'm talking about. Much of this is mentioned in the Book of Passenger Lists by I. Daniel Rupp. Well I hope this helps fill out your information a little. That's all I have for now. Signed STEWART HINDS

4-10-2002 Stewart Hinds helped translate the ship record in German.
He wrote that there is a book titled Pennsylvania Emigrants, Early Pioneers from Mutterstadt in the Palatinate by Annette K. Burger or Burgert? He said that the book shows that his wife's name was Judith.

4-10-2002 Stewart Hinds (sthinds@netzero.net) who helped translate a German Ships Record about Wilhelm Heim coming to America on the ship Thistle in 1730, also stated the following. Stewart found a land record of 1737 which shows that Wilhelm and family lived next to Nicholas Keyser and Gerhard Brownbaugh. This area was heavily German. Gerhard Brownbaugh gave his name to the Brownback church at which John Casper Stoever ministered. This church was also called the Warwick Congregation in Chester Co., PA. Chester County was mostly English Quaker except for the north along the Schuylkill river which wwas German, reinforced by heavy German enclaves right across the river. He said there is a book on the German Churches by Glatfelter that tells of the Brownback or Coventry (Warwick) church. There are many Heims, Himes, Keims, Hines, and Hains in these areas. Depending on the date of the land record, it looks like Francis Himes was born in Coventry, Chester Co, PA.

4-10-2002 E-mail from Stewart Hinds advised that Wilhelm Heim's son, Johannes or Hans, who was born in Mutterstadt on Oct. 7, 1712, arrived at Philadelphia on the ship, James Goodwill on Sept 27,1727, with other family members. (He came over with Peter Heim according to another record about the ship, James Goodwill) It was suggested that Hans encouraged his brother and sister to migrate to the U.S. and they did arrive in PA in 1730. This also states that Wilhelm b. abt 1710, Hans and Anna's father's name is also Wilhelm. It could not be the Wilhelm Heim b. abt 1710 as he did not have a son named Hans or Johannes born in 1712, as his first child was born in 1731.

These pages again state that Wilhelm Heim came over on the Ship "Thistle" from Germany, they left June 19, 1730 and arrived in Philadelphia Aug 29, 1720. Also on the list were other people connected to the Himes. Philip Groscost which was married to Wilhelm's sister, Ann Mararetha Heim; Jerrimias
Hess who married a Himes, and Peter Miller who Wilhelm Heim lived with when he came to PA.
