11-7-2001 Cousin Donna (Herbst) Tinley sent an email that she had gone to the library in Dayton, Montgomery Co. OH to see if she could find the house where her Mother, Dorothea (Himes) Herbst was born and found the following information on this family: 1902-1902 City Directory, she found John and Amanda Himes, Daisy, Herman and Ohmer lived on the South side of Irving Avenue. 1900 City Directory, she found the same above as John and Amanda Himes, Daisy, Herman, and Ohmer but no address was shown. It was a mortgaged farm. 1910 City Directory, Sam (Samuel Ohmer) Lizzie (Elizabeth), and children Daisy (Irene), John (Wendell Sr) and Dorothy (Dorothea) lived on Lebanon Pike (now known as Far Hills Avenue) and that Samuel Ohmer Himes mother and Dad (Grandma Amanda and Grandpa John Himes) lived next door. Donna said that she tracked the streets that the census taker took, and it seems the are was where Mother says. She will try to get more info.
11-8-2001 Dottie and John Himes notes in regard to the email that Cousin Donna sent 11-7-2001. About 20 years ago Aunt Dot (Dorothea or Dorothy) Himes told us she was born on Far Hills on a corner and we went looking and did not find anything (this would go along with Donna's email that showed her parents lived on the South Side of Irving Ave, which would be Far Hills). August, 2001on our visit to Dayton, Aunt Dot and Uncle Glenn, Donna and Dottie and John Himes went looking for the house Aunt Dot was born in. She thought it was on the corner of or near Spirea. We found a house at the corner of Spirea and Shafor but she could not tell if it was the house. This house looked as if it has been added on through the years. Then on the other corner is the Shafor home where we have a picture of Aunt Dot and Aunt Daisy Irene standing in front of this home. October 2001, We went back to Far Hills Avenue and looked again and according to the map that we have on Oakwood, OH --the house that John and Amanda Himes had years ago was past the "Long-Romspert House" on Far Hills, and across the street from where Spirea Street was. IF we have come up with the correct area, there is a two story apartment building there now. At the time they lived there it was mainly open farms...and a few houses....
