2. FRANCIS MARION³ HALE (THOMAS², JOHN¹ HAILE) was born Abt. 1780 in North Carolina or Franklin Co Va, and died Aft. 1860. He married (1) SARAH PICKETT August 10, 1802 in Guilford Co., NC. He married (2) PRICILLA LAMB January 15, 1808 in Surry Co. N C. She died Aft. 1840. He married (3) NANCY LEFFEW June 11, 1844 in Franklin Co. Va., daughter of THOMAS LEFFEW. She was born Abt. 1826.

This Indenture made this tenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four between John Via Jun of Franklin County of the one part and Francis Hale of the sd County of the other Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty pounds to him in hand paid by the sd Francis Hale, the Receipt whereof the sd John Via doth hereby acknowledge Have bargained & sold and by these Presents doth grant bargain, Sell and deliver and confirm unto the sd Francis Hale his Heirs and assigns one certain Tract or parcel of Land containing ninety six acres be the same more or less, situate lying and being in Franklin County on the Waters of Runnet bag Creek and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at a corner Spanish oak the west side of the Road thence up a Ridge __the South side ten poles to a Dogwood on a Branch South fifty nine degrees East of a South West Course to a white oak, thence old Line South ten degrees East Twenty one poles to Pointers South eighty two degrees East forty two poles to a white oak, South
fourteen degrees West Twenty eight poles to a white oak thence new Line East strate course to a Spanish oak on sd Road, thence with the sd Road to the Beginning To have and To hold the above granted Land and Premise with all appurtenances and Privileges thereunto belonging to the said Thomas Hale his Heirs and assigns and the said John Via and his Heirs doth warrant and forever defend the above granted Land & Premises unto the said Francis Hale his Heirs and assigns for ever In Witness whereof the said John Via have set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year

This Indenture of bargain and Sale between John Via of the one part and Francis Hale of the other part was proved by the oath of Thomas Hale, William Hale and Dennis Sheridan the witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded.

3. JAMES M.³ HALE (THOMAS², JOHN¹ HAILE) was born Abt. 1785 in North Carolina, and died Abt. 1859. He married NANCY DICKENSON. She was born Abt. 1776 in Russell Co, Virginia, and died July 01, 1853 in Russell Co, Virginia.

I have been told that James was also married to a Susan Dickenson and they had twin sons Eli and Esau born about 1818. I haven't included them in this because it can't be determined who he was married to first or if this is correct.

According to the 1850 census of Russell Co. Nancy may be the daughter of Archelaus and Prudence Dickenson.

4. RUTH³ HALE (THOMAS², JOHN¹ HAILE) was born Abt. 1800, and died Bef. 1850 in Russell Co, Virginia. She married ISAAC GRIFFITH December 28, 1819 in Franklin Co. Va., son of OWEN GRIFFITH and JENNIE GILLESPIE. He was born September 06, 1800 in Franklin Co, Va, and died July 17, 1882 in Russell Co, Virginia.

Abner GRIFFITH ~ There was a Thomas Griffin, born 1756-1776, the son of John Griffin who was mentioned in the will of his uncle Reubin Griffin on 12 March 1776/September 1777 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Thomas Griffin was probably over age 14, as he witnessed the will which would make his birth date before 1762. Abner Griffith was probably the Abner, son of Abel and Barbara Griffith, who were in Augusta County, Virginia circa 1777 to 1787. Abel had sons, Owen and Isaac Griffith, who were later in Franklin County, Virginia. A Sally Turk married in 1802 in Franklin County, Virginia to Abner Griffith. It is believed that the Griffiths lived near the Vias around the borders of Franklin, Floyd and Patrick Counties.EdnaBarney.com
