I am currently researching the Hinson family tree of North Carolina. The name Hinson has also been spelled Henson, Hanson, and Hynson. It is my belief that my ancestors migrated from England to America in the 1600s. My earliest traceable relative is one Robert Hanson, born about 1615, and found in Maryland. He died in Virginia in 1775 at the hands of Doegg's Indians. He had three sons, all of whom spelled their last name Hinson instead of Hanson. It is believed that my particular branch of the Hinson family lived for a number of years in Virginia, before migrating to South Carolina and eventually to the Piedmont area of North Carolina. The majority of my relatives live in and around Stanly County, NC. I have a special interest in military history with an emphasis on Civil War history. Any information would be very much appreciated.
