1840 IN census, page 305, Decatur Co., Sand Creek Twp, lists under Moses Retherford: 1 male -age 5-10 (Jesse, b. abt 1832); 2 males -age 10-15 (William, b. abt 1830; + unknown); 1 male -age 15-20 (unknown. Married and moved away by 1860 census?); 1 male -age 40-50 (Moses, b. abt 1798). 1 female under 5 (Delila, b. abt 1838); 1 female -age 5-10 (Rebecca, b. abt 1835); 1 female -age15-20 (this could be Sarah Jane Bean, possibly as a housekeeper or nurse); 1 female -age 40-50 (probably his first wife- Anna Jerrett, b. abt 1790-1800 , and who probably died sometime after 1840 but before his marriage <see Indiana marriage records> to Sarah Jane Bean on June 7, 1845 and Josiah Bean Retherford's birth in about 1845.)

He apparently moved from Ohio to Indiana between 1835 (birth of Rebecca in OH) and 1838 (birth of Delila in IN).

No reference to Nellie Retherford can be documented. She could possibly have been born after Sarah Retherford, born 1856.
