BEAN - COHEE - GASSAWAY - GILLAM - HENCKEL - LAING - REDENBAUGH - RETHERFORD - SLUSSER - STONE
I'm a seventh generation descendent of Jonathan GILLAM, b1753 PA-- through Thomas, John Wesley, Thomas M., Arthur W., and Sarah Olive. Like many other Gillams, I'm looking for his ancestors. I've researched them in England and Northern Ireland (Ulster), but I've not made any connections. I have updated my file of Thomas Gillam, adding some parallel lines. My Great Great Grandfather, Moses RETHERFORD, was born in Maryland about 1798. My G-G-Grandmother was Sarah Jane BEAN, born IN about 1813. My G-G-Grandfather, Daniel STONE, was born in NY about 1815. He married my G-G-Grandmother Lucinda LAING, born about 1819 in IN. My mother's Gasaway (Gassaway) line has been traced back to London Town, England, before 1600.

On my father's side, I'm descended from the Rev. Anthony Jacob HENCKEL, through Jacob Anthony II, Anthony III, Anthony IV, John, John William, and Loren. Through Burt Barker Brown's Hinkle Genealogy, Anthony Jacob's ancestors are known back to about 1500. The line of my father's ETTER grandmother has been traced back to Switzerland and the Alsace region of France/ Germany.

My SLUSSER (SLUSHER, SCHLÖSSER)line has been researched from Indiana back to Virginia back to Pennsylvania. Jacob Slusser descended from Johannes John Schlösser, son of John Peter Schlösser who immigrated from Germany on the ship Dragon in 1732. There were three different men with the name Jacob Slusser living in western Virginia in the early 1800's; two were first cousins, the third was their approximately-the-same-age uncle. My Jacob Slusser married Mary (Polly) Boster, and they immigrated to Carroll County Indiana with a short stay in Ohio enroute. Another different Jacob Slusser married Mary (Polly) Covey. Still another contemporary Jacob Slusser/Slusher married Tabitha Hylton. All three of these men have had their wives and families intermingled to a very confusing point. In some cases it's been reported that the same Jacob Slusser had all three of these women as wives, at different times. I didn't do this Slusser research myself; it was done by a very reliable and dependable Slusser cousin living in Virginia.

My 2nd Great-Grandmother was Barbara Ann REDENBAUGH. Her father, Henry Redenbaugh, was born in Germany in 1734 and died in Reading OH in 1828.

My COHEE ancesters are traceable back to before Benjamin Sr., born about 1760 in Delaware. Through the work of Mrs.Louise Ostler, Frankfurt IN, I've recently corrected and updated my Cohee file.

There is much credit due to those cousins who have provided input to it. I can't list them all; but much help has been given by Karen Burkett Hylton. She gave me lots of info and leads on my Hinkle, Slusser, Redenbaugh and various other lines in Carroll County, IN. Roger Kunkle helped with my central-Indiana Hinkles. Peggy Redinbo Clark helped alot with my Redenbaugh line. Gene Wine sent the history of the Wein branch of my Etter ancestors. Marilyn Bridge Brown provided alot on my Etter line. Various people have sent information on the Cohee line: Jami Rene Davis, Mark Ripberger, Steve Tuttle and Rita Cochran, Phil Cohee, and Louise Ostler (she included much research done by Arthur Cohee in California). Helpful researchers on my Gillam line have been Edna Carroll, Larry Hanson, and Rich Stayer. Joan Sluss has given me suggestions on my Slusser line; Catherine Slusser has been a big help on its documentation. Melody Cotton Ongenae provided some missing Slusser cousins. Kris Brower helped me update my Retherford line.

I'm currently not active in genealogy research. This site was last updated on November 16, 2006.
