Humphreys/Clemmons/Bennifield/Moon

I'm currently doing research on Humphreys/Humphries family from Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. In 1888 Will W. Humphreys, wife Onie A. Humphreys (both born in Mississippi), children Ocie, Heddie and Jim T. (3 children b.TN)were in Tennessee. By 1896 they were in Navarro Co., Texas (Corsicana Area) where Lucy, Cordia and Velma were born. Sometime after 1910 the family left Navarro Co., Texas and moved back to Tennessee. Will W. Humphreys must have died after they got there because he doesn't show up in the 1920 Haywood Co., TN census records. Obviously Ocie, Hettie and Jim T. Humphreys were married and so was Lucy Humphreys.Lucy married Artimas Ward in Tennessee but I don't have the year yet. Cordia Humphreys(my grandmother)married Frank C. Clemmons in 1925 in Haywood Co., TN.

I only have bits and pieces of my Humphreys family history. Will W. Humphreys was said to be a farmer/bricklayer. That's how my grandmother Cordia broke her hip and was crippled, by tripping over some bricks while her father was working. Cordia always claimed to be half Cherokee Indian and said her mother was full-blooded. She told tales of going with her mother and sisters to the Reservation in Oklahoma. We even learned how to make FRIED BREAD just like the indians do(It's yummy!)I have a picture of who i believe to be a son of Artimas(Timus)Ward and Lucy Humphreys. The license plate is from TN 1947.

My Clemmons relations came from Blytheville, ARK and Haywood Co., TN. The Moons/Bennifields came from Crawfordville and StoneMountain, Georgia. I haven't done much on that line yet.
