It is supposed to be the oldest cemetery in Tipton County, started seven years before the county was organized in 1844. In this cemetery are 32 people with the surname of Shaw add to this 32 surnames that I know are related to the Shaw families. 457 names from readable markers. I am sure there are more related. 33. Symmes purchase Records AVerbatim copy of the Entry Book , Pamplet , and Forfeiture Records of John Cleves Symmes 1787 - 1800 by Chriss McHenry 1979, p 116 July 10th, 1796., Cappt. John Shaw has promised to improve the forfeiture Entered to Stephen Carter in page 26th. for which improvements when made Capt. John Shaw shall have a deed for one half of the forfeiture and the heirs of Stephan Carter shall have a deed fro the other part or one half. Capt. Shaw shall have the privilege of dividing the forfeiture into two equal parts by a line to be drawn either North & South or East & West, and Capt. Shaw shall have his choice of one of the two halves and the improvement may be made by Capt. shaw on his own half of the forfeitures. On page 73 shows the original purchaser of section 24 was Wm. Marsh & Co. Tindal ) 1788 March taken by Stephen Carter and Capt. Shaw took over.
