| This might well be the most boring Homepage you will ever have to encounter, yet this is of no consern to me as it has one purpose only, - getting in touch with anybody whom is short of information on the Hjortshoj Family, originating i Denmark, and to share with them, what I have been recorded on the families of Pilkjaer (Pilker), and Bomholt (Bomholdt) as well. However, if anybody meets the place of birth given to be in Vejlby, Aarhus, Denmark, I shall take questions related to these also, - without promishing any kind of results, except answering to their mails. Greetings Henning The beginning. As the "seed" of this large family wasn't member of the aristocracy, it is impossible to find any traces earlier than that of a man whom, most likely, according to the common rules at that time, were named Nels, or if his parents, then had a kind of "frontline" approach to it, perhaps Niels as this way of spelling the name begins to appear in documents from the early years of the 1600', and as he had a son, Soren, born about 1635, it is everybody's guess about when the father Nels was born ? The first to do a research on the genealogy, and get it published, was Jorgen Kaae Hjortshoj, whom in 1921 made a typewritten publication "NOGLE OPLYSNINGER om SLÆGTSNAVNET OG SLÆGTEN HJORTSHOJ FRA VEJLBY." (Some informations on the familyname and the Hjortshoj-family from Vejlby) A Second revised and enlarged edition followed 1943, made by Johannes Hjortshoj. This must have been a very difficult and demanding task, as this was during WW II and Denmark was occupied by German forces. However, not much new about the early ancestors was added, nor could it be to an family-issue by Poul Erik Hjortshoj 1999, - yet, it shall be noted, this was meant to cover only the decendants from one of the sons from Nels, - a work he continued, and concluded 2002 with the book "Slaegten Hjortshoj fra Vejlby", now 350 pages, with lots of fotos and informations on more than 3.500 individuals, - exclusively on that single line, aptly named "The B-line. Since then he has been investigating in the "A-line", both of which are briefly explained in the following. It seems that Nels had a son (maybe more ?), with name Soren Nielsen (I), and his son was Soren Sorensen (II). Soren Sorensen (II) have two sons, Soren Sorensen Hjortshoj (III), and Niels Sorensen Hjortshoj (IIIa). We do not know of ancestors from the later, if he have had any? Soren Sorensen Hjortshoj (III) is known to have been first married to Bodil Pedersdatter, born 05-02-1708 in Tilst, and burried 20-10-1760. They reproduced with the following tree sons and two daughters: # 1. Peder Sorensen Hjortshoj born 1735 # 2. Ole Sorensen Hjortshoj born 1740 # 3. Niels Sorensen Hjortshoj born 1742 # 4. Maren Sorensdatter Hjortshoj born 1748 # 5. Kirsten Sorendatter Hjortshoj born 1750 Soren Sorensen Hjortshoj was later married to Johanne Nielsdatter, but as far as we know there wasn't any children and we have subsequently found only the oldest son, # 1 Peder Sorensen Hjortshoj mentioned, yet it should be remembered, that it is possible at least Ole and Niels may have had children? |
