Notes for Daniel LeBlanc:
                  BIOGRAPHY
Daniel LeBlanc born in 1626 in France. He is said to have come from Normandy, then, also from La Causee, Loudun, department of Vienne, in the old province of Poitou. The late Genevieve says he was from Martaize, Vienne. There was some unfounded supposition that Daniel LeBlanc's family descended from the Capet Kings, although not yet disproven. Declarations made in France by his descendants, following the deportation, say he came to Acadia with his wife. This was some time before 1650. Daniel had married Francoise Gaudet, the widow Mercier, and they brought with them her daughter of her previous marriage, Marie Mercier, who later married Antoine Babin around 1662. Francoise Gaudet belonged to the Gaudet family, probably his daughter by his first unnamed wife.
In the census of 1671 Daniel LeBlanc was 45 years old and his wife was age 48. They had one married daughter, Francoise, 18; and Jacques 10; Etienne 15; Rene 14; Andre; Antoine 9; Pierre 7. They had 18 cattle, 26 sheep, seven pigs and six acres of land.
Rev. Godbout says they settled on the northshore of the present Annapolis River, one-half mile below the St. Lawrence chapel, where he died between 1693 and 1698. Daniel was one of the six notable chosen by the Acadians in May of 1690, to form a council in order to keep peace among them and administer justice as required by Sir William Phipps. Francoise, his wife, died at her son Pierre's house sometime between 1698 and 1700 at Port Royal. Their son Rene became the father of the well known Rene LeBlanc, the notary of Grand-Pre. The rest of the boys settled in the Minas Basin. Because this is one of the most numerous of Acadian families, it seems important to include the marriages of the children. Children of Daniel and Francoise Gaudet--Jacques married around 1673 to Catherine Hebert; Francoise married around 1671 to Martin Blanchard; Etienne was a navigator and left Acadia; Rene married around 1679 to Anne Bourgeois; Andre married around 1681 to Marie-Jeanne Dugas; Antoine married around 1681 to Marie Bourgeois; Pierre married first around 1684 to Marie Terriot and later married in 1694 to Madeleine Bourg. (From Canadian and Acadian Genealogical Review, the late Rolabd J. Auger, editor-in-chief. Volume IV. No. I, Spring, 1972)
(Note that there is a town or city named LeBlanc in the Western part of the present part of the present Department of Indre, bordering the Department of Vienne in which Poitiers (Capital of old Poiters) is located.
