Notes for Isaac Swartwood:
Built first sawmill in Cayuta Creek Valley around 1800. In 1803 he built the first grist mill. He quarried the mill stomes from Towanda, Pennsylvania and cut and dressed them himself, transporting them from Towanda, Pennsylvania to his grist mill in Cayuta by oxes. There were no bridges and he had to cut the brush in order for his teams to get back home. In 1802 he built a frame house to replace his log home.
