| Welcome to my special space. I hope you will enjoy your visit. I have many interests and I will link to sites that are of interest to me and, I hope, to you also. I am very interested in Genealogy. I use FamilyTreeMaker and have nearly 12,000 names on my tree. I have met many new cousins on line in the past four years and am developing new relationships with them over time. I am a member of the Orange County California Genealogy Society and recently returned from a weeklong trip to Salt Lake City. It was a great trip with my society to the Family History Library. I attended a family reunion in Oregon this summer 2000 to meet relatives that I discovered last summer 1999. I am editing a 1000-page book written by one of my 'new' relatives. She did a wonderful job and I was excited to meet her. I am researching my surname Hoffman/Huffman. My revolutionary ancestor was John Hoffman, born 10-23-1741. He served as a Ranger in Western Pennsylvania. He settled in Fayette County in Germantown near Uniontown. He married Margaret? He died about 1790. I am trying to find more information about him; proof that he actually existed beyond the information that has been passed down. There are members of the DAR that have descended from him but I am looking for details. My paternal family settled in VA, now WV in the early 1800s. I am researching that area too. There are the following surnames in my family: Shahan, Burgoyne, Knotts, McGeath, Summers, Vinegar, Goodwin/Godwin, all from WV or MD. Also on my paternal grandmother's side there are: Porter, Miles, Mills, Lankford, Langford and they are from the Eastern Shore of Md, Somerset County. My mother is a native Californian as was her mother. But my grandfather and my maternal great grandparents were from the Azores which is a part of Portugal. My mother's maiden name was Teixeira. My grandfather was Manuel Machado Teixeira. He came to Yolo Co., California in the 1870s and was naturalized in 1879. He was from Piedade, Pico. I am really having a tough time with this side of the family. My grandmother was Adelaide Silva, daughter of Manual Silva and Isabel?. She was born in Sacramento, California. She had many brothers and sisters but I have not found any of them. Manual and Isabel were from the Azores also but I don't know when. Manual came to California in the 1850s. I could use all the help I can get with this reasearch. I have been reasearching actively for about four years and this year I submitted my application to the DAR. I received a notice from the National Organization that my application was accepted and I am officially a member as of October 2000. It will be a smashing windup of the year. | |
