I am researching the descendants and ancestors of Daniel SHAW and Phebe WAIT who were born in RI or MA, and moved to New York. The family is found in Saratoga Co., New York up to the 1830 US Census. The family moved to Niagara County, NY around 1832. We have not been able to find the parents of Daniel SHAW, but were given the name of James as his father. We were also given a list of names of siblings, but have not had any luck with them yet. The SHAW family of Niagara County, New York genealogy was originally begun by Donald Chace SHAW, my father's first cousin, and passed onto my brother and to me. We have since added more names, found many new relatives who have information, pictures, Bibles, and stories to tell. Surnames from the Niagara area that I have been researching are: SHAW, WAIT, COULTER, PATTERSON, WILKINS, GIBBON, GAYLORD, HULBERT, BROWN, OUTWATER/OUDEWATER, MASON, McKEE, SEARS, DEMOREST, DUTTON, BEERS, BIXLER, OZARD, WRIGHT, STICKLES, CLAPSADDLE, LIDDLE, SHOOK, SCHULTZ, and CLOY. Surnames of Donald SHAW's mother's side are: CHACE, CHASE, FLINT, GRISWOLD, BROWN, SPENCER, STEVENS, ARNOLD, and more. I have a picture of Daniel SHAW and Phebe WAIT taken a few years before their deaths. These were given to me by Sue Milos, a descendant of Daniel's. She also gave me pictures of Daniel's daughter, Jane Elizabeth SHAW, who married Henry Clay Hulbert. After seeing the picture of Jane in her later years, there is no doubt that she is the sister of my great great grandfather Walter Shaw. The resemblance is striking. What a pleasant surprise to find such treasures that I would never have seen if not having researched our family. I have also been fortunate to come across many other people related to our family who have provided me or my brother with their family information. I would love to hear from anyone connected to these families. I have a lot of information to share, but haven't placed it on this website yet. I am still in the process of entering information on Family Tree, and will eventually have my files online. Please email me if you would like me to look up info on a family or surname. Delia Hannah Patterson - wife of Daniel W. Shaw #2 (271 KB) Delia was the daughter of George W. and Hannah (WILCOX) PATTERSON of the Newfane, Niagara, NY area. She married Daniel Walter Shaw. She was the mother of Ellsworth, Frank, and Walter Shaw. Phebe WAIT - wife of Daniel SHAW, mother of Walter (63 KB) This is a picture of Phebe SHAW, taken between 1860 and 1867. It was given to me by Sue Milos, descendant of Jane Elizabeth Shaw - daughter of Daniel and Phebe Shaw. James Harvey CHACE, Sr. -father of George CHACE (53 KB) He was the father of George CHACE. Their name was sometimes spelled CHASE, but mainly CHACE. James' father was William CHASE/CHACE b. 1770 in Hillsdale, NY. Ellsworth Harold Shaw - Army - WWI (202 KB) Ellsworth in his uniform from WWI. He was serving in France. Three Sons of Ellworth SHAW and Grace WILKINS (61 KB) Daniel Louis SHAW, died as a child. He was the oldest. Robert Ellsworth SHAW(with glasses)was the second son. George SHAW was the youngest boy. They were living in Niagara Falls, NY. This picture must have been taken in 1932, because Daniel died January 4, 1933, and George was born November 5, 1931. Christmas 1958 - Shaw family (19 KB) Bob and Gladys and their kids in 1958. Leland and Ellsworth are on the sides of the chair, and Earl is sitting in it. Delia Hannah Patterson -wife of Daniel Walter Shaw (171 KB) Delia Patterson,wife of Daniel Walter Shaw, was the mother of Ellsworth, Walter, and Frank Shaw of Newfane, Niagara, NY. She was the daughter of George and Hannah Patterson. Earl Brown - Grandson of Caroline SHAW (50 KB) Earl was the son of Elmer BROWN and Nellie PETTIT of Newfane, Niagara, NY. Daniel Walter SHAW - son of Walter and Lydia Shaw (234 KB) Daniel Walter Shaw -son of Walter and Lydia, and husband of Delia Patterson. Probably taken in 1880's. Harvest Day Parade - 1916 (71 KB) Newfane, Niagara, NY - Harvest Day Parade of 1916. Ellsworth SHAW and others made a float where they took local pets and pretended to make sausage out of them. Frank SHAW was a butcher. Ells loved telling the story to his grandkids who they scared the kids that day with this float. Robert Ellsworth Shaw -husband of Gladys Gibbon (24 KB) Robert Shaw's graduation picture. He graduated from Niagara High School. Son of Ellsworth and Grace SHAW of Niagara Falls, NY. Born 1926. Walter SHAW - son of Daniel W. and Delia SHAW (325 KB) Walter accidentally was shot in his barn while he and a friend were handling a gun. He wasn't even 20 years old yet. Ellsworth Harold Shaw - son of Daniel and Delia (310 KB) Ellsworth Shaw was the son of Daniel and Delia SHAW, and the father of Robert, Daniel, and George Shaw of Niagara Falls, NY. He was the husband of Grace Marie WILKINS. Frank SHAW - son of Daniel W. and Delia SHAW (17 KB) Frank SHAW was the husband of Laura CHACE, and father of Donald Chace SHAW. Ellsworth and Grace (WILKINS) SHAW (49 KB) Ellsworth and Grace (Wilkins) SHAW's 50th Anniversary in Niagara Falls, NY. Clarissa CLAPSADDLE - wife of Arthur PATTERSON (60 KB) Clarissa was the mother of George PATTERSON. She came from the CLAPSADDLE families who moved to Porter, Niagara, NY between 1816-1818.
