My family have lived under the slopes of Bennachie for as long as I can trace back. The story goes that they came down with Donald of the Isles to fight at Harlaw, Inverurie, in 1411. They liked it so much that they stayed. Antoher story is that they were chased out for poaching. Who knows maybe fighting at Harlaw was a betteroption then the penalties for poaching.

Many of my granparents relatives emigrated to USA,Canada and New Zealand. I know there are Coutts, Johnstons, Irvins and Finnies in the USA and Canada, and Gilmores in New Zealand.

If anyone out there has information to fill in the blanks then I'd be most greatful.
