Includes NotesNotes for Samuel Sr. Moseley:
!1790-1791 ORANGE CO. NC & related documents on saml and john moseley:
A Saml and a nearby John Moseley in Hillsborough Dist, St Thomas Dist, Orange
Co., NC in 1790. The
census data is lost, and only names remain. Orange Co is adj. to Wake Co and
the latter was formed from
Orange Co. in 1770. Granville Co DB N Jan 3, 1791- Samuel Mosely of Orage Co NC
sold land in
Granville Co to Roger Jones of Franklin Co NC (Roger Jones, was sheriff of
Franklin Co and also exec of Thos Smith's 1790 will)
Granville Co DB N Nov 20, 1791- Samuel Moseley of Orange Co NC sold land in
Granville Co to Reuben Hoof of Warren Co NC
This is the Saml that married Susannah Bledsoe. His father was John Moseley s/o
James of Brunswick.
Saml wandered all over the place including Edgefield Co SC and Abbeville Sc and
died in GA (maybe it was Franklin Co GA, if we remeber correctly);
Note:
!Rev Virgil D. White, Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files
(Waynesboro, TN: Nat. Hist. Pub. Co., 1991), p. 2437: NC line, file s33117 and
R7361. enlisted at Louisburg, Franklin co NC (part of Bute/Granville co before)
same pension file on andrea file on LDS film 0954556 end and 0954557 (start):
bef rev war resided in edgecombe and wake cos NC, after war 12 mos in Abbeville
co SC then to Franklin co GA. (louisburg is only 3 miles from tarr river land).
SON OF JOHN: Granville co. NC Deed Bk O: 431 in 1784 John Moseley of granville
gives his home plantation land 200 ac on Buckhorn Creek to his son Samuel.
saml son of john: assoc w. each other after rev war orange
& franklin co NC, later in edgefield co SC 1786 saml, john declared insolvent.
granville co NC, 1790 orange co nc census, 1800 edgefield co sc, 1810 only saml
about 1819 saml to franklin co GA, 1830 census saml, garland, danl and saml jr.
almost certain that Samuel RW vet b. 1759 Bute
Co NC is son of John [Moseley of Bute] and I think the Samuel that briefly
shows up in Edgefield Co. is in fact the same son of John.
1790 census of orange co NC p.97 john and samuel moseley data is MISSING, at
least from index version--we once misinterpreted this as 0-0-0-0-0 census data.
MARRIAGE: saml served 1781 in 3rd enlistment under
capt bledsoe in his 3rd enlistment 1781. a saml moseley marr bond to Susannah
Bledsoe 12 aug 1786 granville co NC.
NOTE THE 1800 CENSUS BELOW INDICATES THAT WE'VE MISSED A LOT OF HIS OLDER KIDS.
!1999 some relations of his children were 1999 on www.gendex.com by jim oxford.
LDS 0001042 and 0001043 microfilms by franklin Mousley ca 1956 under CLUES sec:
he lists these 3 as sons of samuel b. 1759 based upon census mostly apparently,
but another record had a different 3 kids apparently based on more direct
evidence, so we separated these 3 census apparent kids away from other 3 kids.
(THEY REMAIN AS LAST 4 KIDS, out of birth order, because less certain ones).
1810 census Abbeville Dist SC p.41 said to be same samuel: 32100-11001-00.
in 1800 there are a young man & woman aged 16-25 along w. saml's father john:
1800 census p.161 edgefield SC 00101-00101, next is saml 31010-11010-00.
***********************
!James and Mary of Brunswick Co VA probably had two sons,
James Jr. and son John (wife Sarah). John and Sarah apparently had two
sons, Sam'l and Wm. We do not know what happened to James Jr. or to Wm. but
I can follow Samuel with his father John after the RW through Granville Co
NC, Wake Co. NC, Orange Co. NC, Edgefield Co SC , Abbeville and finally
Franklin Co GA where he died. Father John's name ceases to be associated
with Samuel's in deeds after 1791, Granville Co. NC; however a Samuel and a
John lived very close to each other in Edgefield Co SC as judged by the
1800 census. So we guess this John d. between 1791/1800 either in NC or SC.
--LATER AUG 11 2001 CA RESEARCHER SAID SAMUEL RETURNED TO WARREN CO NC AFTER
THE REV WAR (I HAD THOUGH FRANKLIN CO) WHERE SHE BELIEVES HIS FATHER LIVED
(previously I had compiled saml's birth in franklin co portion of bute co NC);
1790 census of orange co NC p.97 john and samuel moseley data is MISSING, at
least from index version--we once misinterpreted this as 0-0-0-0-0 census data.
LATER AUG 11 2001 CA RESEARCH SAID BOTH FATHER AND SON EDGEFIELD SC, THEN
FATHER DIED ABBEVILLE DIST SC "WHERE THE FATHER DIED" --and finally samuel and
family moved to franklin co GA;
