Burton B. Holloway

Burton B. "Burt" Holloway, 64, a resident of Oakville for 29 years, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 1989, in Providence Hospital, Centralia.

He was born April 9, 1925, in Elma, to Butler and Lulu (McMaster) Holloway. He attended Porter Elementary School and Elma High School.

He served as an ammunition truck driver for the 786th Tank Battalion in the Army in the European Theater during World War II. He received numerous medals, including the Purple Heart.

After his military service Mr. Holloway worked in the door department at Simpson Timber Co. in McCleary for 24 years. He retired in 1981.

Mr. Holloway was an entertaining storyteller with a strong sense of humor, according to his family. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, oil painting, carving, carpentry and working around his home, which he called, "The Wooden Head Ranch."

Mr. Holloway belonged to the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union 2761.

Surviving are his wife Nita, of the family home; two sons, Clark Holloway of Tumwater and Scott Holloway of Marysville; a daughter, LuWana Berg of Oakville; a brother, Lloyd Holloway of Tacoma; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Jerry Groydin of Seattle and Mrs. Craig Johnson of Olympia; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service for Mr. Holloway will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in Sharon Cemetery in Porter, near Oakville. The Rev. Allen Hull will officiate. Arrangements are by Whiteside Mortuary, Elma.
