 Includes NotesNotes for Johannes Countryman:
It is not certain when Johannes Countryman, son of Conrad and Maria Margaret Countryman (from Schoharie to Minden, 1731) first settled in present-day Stark. In the 1790 census for the Canajoharie district he is listed next to Michael Snyder and Godfrey Young, the latter a resident of present-day Minden; however, all three of his sons were in Danube (then including present day Stark) in 1820, and three of his duaghters married into Stark families, so that it is likely Johannes was in Stark shortly after 1790. (Two of his brothers, Marcus and Conrad Countryman, are listed in the Otsquago settlement in the 1790 census but this seems to be a duplicate entry, for the same two families are listed elsewhere in the Canajoharie district.) This family is covered in Alvin and John E. Countryman's "Countryman Geneology" (1925) as well as in Barker's "Montgomery Families." The Countrymans were in the 1709 Palatine emigration.
