Ralph Calloway Holbrook was born June 4, 1846, in Traphill, Wilkes County, 
North Carolina, and the fifth of ten children of Ralph and Nancy Spicer Holbrook. 
His brothers and sisters are: Hardin Spicer Holbrook who married Nancy Dawson Bryan,
 James Monroe Holbrook who married Elizabeth "Betty" Spicer, Martha Jane Holbrook 
who married Joshua Spicer, Joseph Samuel Holbrook who married Fanny Caroline Alexander,
 John Winfrey Holbrook who married Sarah Jane Caudill, Joshua Newton Holbrook
 who married Alice Ida Bryan, Nancy Frances "Fannie" Holbrook who married 
Campbell Rice Holbrook. Elizabeth Jemima "Bettie" Holbrook who married 
Jacob Madison Pruitt, and Augusta Alice Holbrook who married Millard Fillmore Brown.
Ralph Calloway married on October 7, 1869, Sarah Ann Holbrook, born August 23, 1851,
in Traphill, daughter of William and Sarah "Sallie" Sparks Holbrook. Sarah Ann died 
October 15, 1921. And is buried at the Traphill Baptist Church, Traphill. Ralph Calloway 
lived 14 years after her death and died November 19, 1938, and is also buried at 
Traphill Baptist Church. They had 148 descendants as of 1990.
Ralph Calloway and Sarah Ann were the parents of 6 children as follows: 

1. Joseph Preston Holbrook -- born July 23, 1870. In Traphill, died November 12. 1952
 buried at Old Roaring River Baptist Church, Traphill. Married first on February 3.1893, 
to Frances Louise Johnson, born April 28, 1874, in Joynes. Wilkes County, daughter of
 John Martin and Martha Jane Stamper Johnson, died May 16, 1905, buried 
Traphill Baptist Church. Joseph Preston married second on July 12, 1907, to 
DeEtta Bauguess, born February 15, 1890, in Traphill, daughter of John Andrew and 
Susan Childress Bauguess. Died June 23. 1988 age 98, buried at Old Roaring River 
Baptist Church.
Joseph Preston had 8 children. 5 by first wife and 3 by second wife, as follows: 
Coy Herbert Holbrook -- born December 23, 1894, in Traphill, died November 7, 1962, 
married on July 10, 1919, to Bessie Jane Price, born February 24, 1903, in Belle Vernon,
 Pennsylvania, died in 1983. Both are buried at Belle Vernon Cemetery. Four children,
George Roy Holbrook who married Elvira Dianne Romito; Betty Louise Holbrook who married 
first, Joseph Edward Riskey, married second William Von Holbrook; John Preston Holbrook 
who married Harriet Wilma Harris; and Ruth Ann Holbrook who married William Dale Sterner. 
      (2) Ralph Garland Holbrook -- born September 4, 1896, in Traphill, died
 May 17, 1978, buried at Traphill Baptist Church, Traphill, married on 
December 29, 1926, to Ruby Elma Brooks, born June 27, 1907, in Traphill, daughter
 of William Cleveland and Celia Samantha Pruitt Brooks. Four children, William Von Holbrook
 who married first Edith Bell Pinnix Gray, married second to Betty Louise Holbrook Riskey;
 Ruth Louise Holbrook who married Carl Dean Cothren; Ralph Bert Holbrook who 
married Helen Louise Handy: and Peggy Lou Holbrook who married Kenneth Hadley Cothren.
(3) Ila Lillian Holbrook -- born March 3, 1899, in Traphill, died August 3. 1968. 
Married on January 17, 1915, to Lefftridge Blaine Sparks, born April 6, 1895, in Traphill,
 died July 17, 1967. Both are buried at Traphill Baptist Church Traphill. 
Three children, Ruth Sparks who married Arvel Pruitt; Reba Blanche Sparks who married
 first Graham Ernest Newman, married second to Charles Edward Jenkins Jr., married third
 to Leon Cayton; Vena Lillian Sparks who married first Calley Orrison, married second
 Alfred Smith. 
(4) Nora Kate Holbrook -- born September 30, 1900, in Traphill, died June 4, 1988, married
 on December 27, 1919, to Lewis William Bauguess, born August 18, 1892, in Traphill, 
died August 20, 1970. Both are buried at Emmett, Idaho. One child, Ralph Holbrook Bauguess
 who married Vivian Bennett.


(5) Beulah Holbrook -- born April 30, 1904. In Traphill, married December 31, 1921, to 
Dewey Clinton "Red" Castevens, born June 7, 1899, in Marler, Yadkin County. Died 
May 15, 1956, buried at Traphill Baptist Church, Traphill. Two children, William 
Clinton "Billy/Bill" Castevens who married Rosa Lee "Rose" Triplett and Beatrice
 Louise Castevens who married first Hardin Samuel Holbrook. Married second 
James Winfrey Holbrook.
(6) Nannie Susan Holbrook -- born May 23. 1909, in Traphill, married December 26, 1926,
 to Glendore Roosevelt "Glen" Castevens, born October 27, 1903. In Marler, Yadkin County.
 Died July 4, 1957, buried Cool Springs Baptist Church, Benham. Four children, 
Frances Christine Castevens who married Billy Ray McClintock; Mary Lee Castevens 
who married Clifton Earl Bass. Joseph Glenn Castevens who married Betty Lou Ingool, 
and Howard Paul Castevens who married Linda Mae Shepherd. 
(7) John K Holbrook -- born July 12, 1911. In Traphill, married July 12, 1940, to 
Molly Dessere Newman, born March 18, 1920. In Benham. 3 children, Johnny K Holbrook 
who married Judith Dell Darnell, James Norris who married Wilda Jean Baldwin and 
Donna Jolene Holbrook who married Douglas Keith Secreast.
(8) Joseph Lawrence Holbrook -- born March 30, 1917, in Traphill, married July 5, 1938, 
to Lucy Armenia Newman, born March 7, 1918, in Benham. 2 children, Leon Lawrence Holbrook 
who married Polly Loree Rhymer, and Ronald Waldo "Ronnie" Holbrook who married Mary Joyce Earp.
2. Theodosia Lou Holbrook -- born September 1, 1875, in Traphill, died January 9, 1957, 
age 81, buried at Traphill Baptist Church, Traphill, not married.
      3. Lenora Leota Holbrook -- born October 30, 1877, in Traphill, died July 10, 1967, 
married December 21,1899, to Hardin Gaither Pruitt, born January 29, 1878, in Traphill,
 son of Joseph Paterson and Martha Jane Hutchinson Pruitt, died January 12, 1965, both 
buried at Traphill Baptist Church, Traphill. One child, (1) Von Defoe Pruitt --born September 24. 1901. In Traphill, married on December 16. 1924 to Donna Faye Myers. Born June 3.1907. In Dockery. Wilkes County. Daughter of Tyre Staley and Geneva Maude Bryan Myers. One child. Mary Doris Pruitt who married Billy Lee Daye.
4. Sallie Belle Holbrook -- born January 23. 1880. In Traphill. Died July 27, 1975, 
married April 2.1908. To John Claude Brinegar. Born January 3. 1880, in Traphill. 
Son of Joseph and Elizabeth Louisa Billings Brinegar, died March 10. 1957. Both buried
 at Traphill Baptist Church. Traphill. One child. (1) Albert Gordon Bnnegar-- born
 June 14. 1909. In Traphill. Died September 22. 1970. Married December 27. 1927. To
 Flora Christine Castevens. Born November 17, 1907. In Marler, Yadkin County. 
Died June 22, I976. Both buried at Hampton. Virginia. Two children. (1) Frank Eldon Brinegar 
who married Carolyn Elizabeth McKenzie. (2) Flora Christine Brinegar who married 
John Randolph Cunningham.
5. Nancy Jane Holbrook -- born May 30, 1882. In Traphill. Died January 3. 1935. Buried
 at Traphill Baptist Church. Traphill. Married August 8. 1903. To Vincent Casey. Born 
January 1866. In Wilkes County. Son of William and Charlotte H. Bauguess Casey, died
 date unknown, buried in Casey Family Cemetery. Traphill Four children. (1) Hubert Casey,
 born 1904. In Traphill. Died date unknown. Buried in Maryland. Not married. (2) Richard
 Cleveland Casey. Born July 9. 1909. In Traphill, died May 22, 1978. Buried in Greensboro. 
Caroline County. Maryland. Not married. (3) Presley Elmer Casey. Born July 12,1912. 
In Traphill. Died June 24, 1958. Buried in Greensboro. Maryland. Not married. (4) Ira Vincent 
Casey. Born March 15. 1915, in Traphill. Died date unknown buried in Alleghany County.

6. William Ralph 'Billy' Holbrook -- born November 20. 1885. In Traphill. Died June 26 1958. 
Married February 28.1915. To Margaret Mae Lyon. Born February 25. 1890. In Traphill, 
daughter of William Richard and Kiziah Holloway Lyon, died October 13. 1968. Both buried Traphill Baptist Church, Traphill. Three children: (1) Ruby Constance "Con" Holbrook. Born January 17, 1916. In Traphill. Married on January 5. 1933. To William Lestus "Lex' 'Cleary. Born October 15. 1911, in New Life. Wilkes County. Son of Malcolm David and Frances Clementine Bowers Cleary. Died September 1. 1984. Buried Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Benham. Wilkes County four children: Margaret Sue Cleary who married Wayne Bronson Edward's. Evelyn Ann Cleary who married Aubry Revere Martin Jr. William David Cleary who married Kathryn Pearl 'Katie' Harris, and Keven Dwight Cleary.
(2) Amalie Holbrook, born April 15. 1919 in Traphill, married December 1. 1939. 
To Frederick Samuel Burcham born December 19. 1919, in Benham. Son of Fred Devon and 
Grace Ellen Poplin Burnham three children, Barbara Carol Burnham who married 
Peter Ellis Combs. Janet Marie Burnham who married Earle Agnew Welsh, and William 
Randolph Burcham.
     (3) Grady Harding Holbrook born June 8 1920 in Traphill Married first on April 4 1942
 to Kathleen Pruitt. Born May 22. 1917. In Ironton, Ohio, daughter of James Winfrey and
Nora Sears Engle Pruitt. Died May 23. 1987, buried at Traphill Baptist Church, Traphill, married second on July 14, 1971, to Ronda Jo Riskey Acton, born March 10, 1951, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, daughter of Joseph Edward and Betty Louise Holbrook Riskey, married third on March 15, 1980, to Victoria Boteler Miller, born September 27, 1942, in Jackson. Mississippi, daughter of Fitzhugh Lee and Ruth Evelyn Sylvester Boteler Jr. one child, Richard Grady Holbrook. 
    (4) Nell Leveta Holbrook, born July 26, 1928, in Traphill, married June 6. 1948,
 to David John Walters Jr. born May 28. 1924. In Jersey City. New Jersey, son of David John
 and Anna Johnson Walters. Three children: Stephen Robert Walters. David John Walters III.
 And Gregory William Walters.
