More About John Chase and Harriet N. Horner: Marriage: June 16, 1839, Rector of The Evangilist Southwark, Philadephia PA.230
Marriage Notes for John Chase and Harriet N. Horner: Church of the Evangelist, Southwark District, Philadelphia PA was a Protestant Episcopal Church. The former church is now (1999) the Fleischer Art Museum, located on Catherine St. between 7th and 8th Sts, Although the congregation was admitted into Convention in 1842, its work began in 1837. A small church was erected at 5th and Catherine Sts in 1839. The Rev. Samuel Burborow was rector from 1855 to 1870 when he became the superindendent of the newly formed City Mission. During the rectorshop of Dr. Durborow,a new church was built in 1857 on Catherine St. near 8th, 3 blocks from the original church. That church was eventually torn down and replaced by yet a newer church in 1886, built in an Italian Basilican style modeled after the Cathedral of Pisa. Eventually the church was closed (after 1911). The building was purchased in 1922 by Samuel F. Fleischer who established an art sanctuary in it. It is now (1999) an art center and museum, open to the public and the records of the parish are in the Church House.
