197. Email dated April 5, 1999 from Loretta Parker to Dave Holland, "I went instead to the Genealogical Society of PA and searched their holdings to see if perhaps they had the records of the "Evangelist" church you mentioned as having been the marriage place of John Chase and Harriet Horner. GSP did indeed have a microfilm of some of that churches records and I did indeed find the marriage record of a John Chase to a Harriet Horner on 16 June 1839. The marriage record book is set up so that there is a left page and a right page, the left page giving the name of the bride and groom and the date, the right page is designated to listing the names of the witnesses to the marriage. Unfortunately, on the right page where the witnesses should have been, it was left BLANK. It was left blank on the entire right page of ALL persons that were married, not just John and Harriet. A possible explanation is that the "church" was not an "actual" church yet at the time of their marriage. I found two books at the GSP on the Episcopal Archdiocese of Philadelphia and they gave a history of the early Episcopa lChurches, including the one that John Chase and Harriet Horner were married in. I photocopied the relevant pages from the books for you and also a page with a photograph of the "actual"church as it was build in 1885 at a different address than the one when John and Harriet married.

404. Newspaper Article, Portland OR, November, 1925, OWNER OF DEATH CAR MAY ESCAPE SERIOUS CHARGES. A nice legal point confronted police, municipal judges and the city attorney's office Monday following the death of Mrs. G.R. Goit, No. 968 Tibbetts street, who was injured at East 26th and Brooklyn streets Sunday by a driverless runaway automobile. Monday morning Charles F. McDowell, owner of the runaway car, appeared in court and was fined $25 on a charge of operating a car with defective brakes. He had left his car parked and the brake failed to hold. Mrs. Goit died at 12:10 P.M. Learning of her death, traffic officers took up the possibility of lodging a manslaughter complaint against McDowell only to learn that the case already had been disposed of. In view of McDowell's conviction on the lesser charge, it was not believed likely that any further action would be taken against him.
