Hollis Family Home Page

We are researching the Hollis family from Tennessee. Alfred Hollis was born between 1810 and 1814 in TN. He married Mary "Polly" Durham in 1834 in Bond County, Illinois. In 1840, Alfred owned land in Bond County, IL. The first 5 of his 12 children were born in IL. Then, around 1843, the Alfred Hollis family moved to Missouri where the rest of the children were born. Alfred purchased land in Barry County, Missouri in 1856. The first census I find Alfred and his family on is the 1860 census for Shoal Creek, Barry County, Missouri. Then, on the 1870 census, Alfred and Mary are listed as living in Prairie, Carroll County, Arkansas. On the 1880 census he is living with his son Henry Hollis in Spring Hill, Hempstead County, Arkansas. John Wesley Hollis was one of Alfred's son. This is the Hollis family we are researching.

We are also researching the Votaw family. There are several spellings for this family name. The direct decendant's we are researching are John Votaw married to Jane Inks. Their son John Votaw Jr married Mary Coonse. Their son Silas Peter Votaw married Elizabeth Emeline Sawyers Morrison.
