Irby Noah Hollans, Jr. 5339 Cristfield Court Fairfax,VA 22032-3809 (703) 503-9788 | I am researching the roots of The Hollins Family in Virginia. I am currently back to 1820 with William Reily Hollins, b. 1820 in Floyd County, VA, d. September 14, 1897 at age 77.He married December 27, 1843 Mary Jane (Polly) Moore, of Franklin County, VA.She was b. September 6, 1826 and d. January 4, 1917 at age 91, but her death certificate said "96". They had 13 children. A John and a Hetta died in infancy. The 11 that lived to maturity were: 1. Hetta or Hedde Hollins b. ca. 1846 2. John Hollins b. ca. 1849 3. William R. Hollins (Jr.) b. January 28, 1850, d. June 19, 1914 4. Robert Bruce Hollins b. March 6, 1852, d. December 6, 1928 5. Thomas M. Hollins b. ca. 1855 6. Jesse Benjamin Hollins b. April 1, 1857, d. June 15, 1926 7. Raymond Hollins b. ca. 1858 8. Nancy L. Palona Elicabeth Hollins b. ca. 1860 9. Sally Ann Hollins b. ca. 1862 10.George D. Hollins b. Hollins b. ca. 1873 William Reily Hollins was a private in Company H, 4th Virginia Reserves, in the Civil War.This unit from Floyd County, VA had 189 men. Of the five sons of #6. Jesse Benjamin Hollins, three spelled their surname "Hollins" and two spelled it "Hollans". In the Montgomery County, VA Circuit Court Records, in Christiansburg, VA, the family name is spelled "Hollins", "Hollans" and "Hollands", sometimes all three ways in the same document! Most of the family's decendents are buried in cemeteries in the ajoining counties of Floyd, Franklin, Montgomery and Roanoke, Virginia. I would appreciate receiving any information you might have, and I will share what information I possess. |
