William ran away from home to join the revolutionary forces as a drummer boy under an assumed name. He also served in war of 1812 and was wounded and partially disabled for life. William moved from Uniontown, PA to Monongalia Co., WV.
He married his second wife, Charity Taylor Pricket, sometime after 1808.
