Notes for Thomas Blair: The photo above is the house Thomas built in West Point. It was still s tanding in 2001 when the picture was taken. Many thanks to Dalton Nobl it, a "cousin" who still lives in the area for sending this picture.
Owned 35 slaves in the 1850 slave census, also a large plantation.
Even at his advanced age, he went out during the War Between the Sta tes and took mail to whatever troops were in the area. There were several Blair families in Tennessee that had sons named Thom as. However, I have run most of them to ground and they aren't ours. I h ave no idea where he came from or to whom he belonged.
Birth place depends on which source you believe. Census records indica te Tennessee as his birthplace but the original "History of West Point" g ave his birth place as Virginia. The book was written by Dr. Paul Welc h, a neighbor and friend of Thomas. His estate papers contain a bill from his doctor for "whiskey" and anot her for "bleeding".
His tombstone appears fairly new. Perhaps the original was destroyed a nd another erected.

Their marriage was performed by Aaron Cunningham, M.G. Since it is the f irst record of Thomas in Lawrence County and also since he was quite yo ung, I suspect he followed Sarah there to marry her.
Children of Thomas Blair and Sarah Cunningham are:
+William C. Blair, b. 14 Jul 1824, Lawrence County, Tennessee156, 157, d. 28 Dec 1863, Hamblen County, Tennessee157.
