Butternut Crackers
Civil War: flag/logo of the 92nd Illinois Mounted Infantry Volunteers. This Regiment saw service from 1862 to 1865, including actions at Chatanooga, Chicamauga, and the Atlanta Campaign. "Butternut" was the term used to describe the color of the Confederate uniform. The "old 92nd" was proclaiming that they had "cracked" the Confederate army during battle. The 92nd Regimental Flag is not found in the "Hall of Flags" in Springfield, IL. Location of this flag is unknown.
