This page documents the family history of George LeVaske Hurd, born August 11, 1871 in Arkansas. Much of the information was taken from the 1910 Census of Tuskahoma Township, Pushmataha County, Oklahoma and updated with the research of Floyd Suder and other Holt family members. George Hurd was the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Pushmataha County, Antlers, Oklahoma for three terms. His wife, Oris Dell was born April 30, 1877 in Arkansas. George was of Dutch heritage. His father, Richard Neal Hurd, born September 7, 1846 in Tennessee (died April 12, 1915), as was his mother, Mary Miser, born May 12, 1844, died November 28, 1928. His wife was of French heritage and her parents were also born in Tennessee. They were married in Arkansas in 1891. They moved to Tuskahoma, Oklahoma around 1896. George owned and ran a local mercantile store in Clayton, Oklahoma. Both George and Oris were killed when their Model T automobile was hit by a train in Hugo, Oklahoma December 30, 1938. They are buried in the "old Clayton cemetery" in Clayton, Oklahoma along with George's brothers, Walter J. Hurd, born July 16, 1880, died February 6, 1904 and Estle S. Hurd, born April 30, 1877, died February 1, 1897.

George's other brothers were:
William C. Hurd, born in Arkansas 1862

Henry Kane Hurd, born January 28, 1868 in Arkansas, died July 24, 1932. Married Nellie Mae Scrimsher, born November 29, 1872, died July 17, 1921. Children; Henry Lee Hurd, born April 14, 1898, died January 18, 1915. Bishop Lloyd Hurd, born January 20, 1899, died January 19, 1914. All are buried in the Oddfellows cemetery, Antlers, Oklahoma.

Bishop A. Hurd, born 1870 in Arkansas. Married Addie Hurd. Died November 16, 1914 buried in unmarked grave in Locke Family cemetery, Antlers, Oklahoma. Married Sarah Florence Pool June 22, 1915, born 1894. Children; Marvin Hurd - son of B.A. and Penelope Walden Hurd, buried in the Locke Family cemetery, Antlers, Oklahoma.

George's sisters:
Fannie Hurd, born 1864 in Arkansas.

Minnie A. Hurd, born September 25, 1874 in Arkansas, died June 19, 1934. Married (Rann) and Joseph H. Simmons, born February 14, 1877, died April 3, 1938. Both are buried in the Oddfellows cemetery in Antlers, Oklahoma. Children; Geniva Fern (Simmons) Jamar , born November 2, 1905, died July 18, 1933. Ada Lorene (Simmons) Witherspoon, born September 30, 1913, died January 14,1977. Married Tillman Levi Witherspoon (Doctor of Dentistry) May 20, 1937, born February 14, 1902, died April 8, 1973. Wilburn Joe Witherspoon, born and died July 22, 1938.

George and Oris had ten children:

Married Clarence L. Edmonds December 23, 1916, born 1888
5. Daughter - Minnie B., born February 13, 1898 in Oklahoma
Married Ira W. Laycock April 13, 1919
6. Son - Al B., born January 22, 1901 in Oklahoma
Married Hazel Montgomery, born 1903
7. Son - Noble Ray, born May 1, 1903 in Oklahoma
8. Son - Jessie Clark, born November 28, 1905
9. Daughter - Lillian, born August 15, 1910
10. Daughter - Hazel, born March 5, 1913, died January 11, 1968
Married Bert Steinshek

Edith Willie Hurd married Noel Thurman Holt(z), born March 30, 1895, the son of David Franklin Holt(z) and Fannie Wilson. They later moved to Van Buren, Arkansas. Noel served in the U.S. Army during World War I in France and perhaps other parts of Europe. Noel worked for the Frisco Railroad. Willie died November 18, 1975 in Van Buren, Arkansas. Noel died May 2, 1977 in Van Buren, Arkansas. Both are buried in the A. L. Stephens Memorial Park cemetery in
