Notes for B
ENJAMIN HOLLAND:
Benjamin Holland , A Hollander (dutch) Born between 1735-1740 , in the Netherlands , Came to America probably in the 1750's settled on the eastern shores of Maryland , family information from Jacob Holland , Benjamin's Grandson says there were seven brothers that came to America , have not been able to prove this , also says that the name was changed to Holland when they landed in America.
Benjamin Holland married a English Lady by the name ( Pruitt ) first name possible was Francis have not been able to prove this , Benjamin and Wife had a son by the name of Thomas Holland on December 24 , 1759 while living in Maryland . do not know if other children were born in Maryland when or where other family members were born .

Benjamin Holland son Thomas states in his Revolution War records that the family moved to Pittsylvania County Virginia when he was very young propably at the time they came to Virginia , Pittsylvania County was known as Halifax County , Benjamin Holland is found on land records first in the early 1770's It is felt that they may have come to Virginia some time during the 1760's . we know they had a son named John born about 1762 birth place not known , it is also felt that there was a son named Jacob Holland records indicate a Jacob Holland living next to Benjamin Holland all of the time they were in Montgomery County .

Benjamin had several land grants in Pittsylvania County . On November 18th 1779 , 374 acres on both sides of the Cat Trail fork of Sycamore Creek adjoining Isaac Clements Land . Bk B. pg 91 and 174 acres on both sides of sycamore creek adjoining Callaway land .

We do not know how long Benjamin Holland lived in Pittsylvania County Va. before moving on to Montgomery County Va. We find where he acquired land in Montgomery County Va. near where Wythe County is now located , it is felt the Holland's lived in this area of Montgomery County when the Revolutionary War started .Thomas Holland was in the battle of Rugsby Mills located in Montgomery County, Virgina .

There were several land grants in Montgomery County Va. for Benjamin Holland most of which was on Little Read Island a branch of New River , Grants P pg 463 , year 1785 , in the year of 1783, a 440 acres track on a branch of Bobetts creek a branch of little Read Island a branch of big Read island near New River . during the peroid of 1780 through 1785 he received several grants of land in this area .

Records in the Christianburg Court House shows that Benjamin's son's Thomas , John and Jacob being drafted into the Virginia Militia in the late 1778 and early 1780's while living in Montgomery County Va. John Holland's son James C. Holland born in Jefferson Co. Tn 1794 says that his father came from Wythe Co. Va. this would have been Montgomery Co. at the time Benjamin son John Holland lived there as we find him in Tennessee before Wythe County was formed so it is felt the Holland's lived in that part of Montgomery County Virginia , See more about Thomas Holland which will show some of the battle's that he was envolved in . Which help's locate Benjamin Holland in Montgomery Co Va.

It is felt that Benjamin Holland probably went to Green County Tennessee during the period from 1785 to 1795 as we find land records for him in Green and Jefferson and Cocke County Tennessee after this time . In Jafferson County Tennessee Record Book No #1 Court Minutes for the time period 1792-1798 , on Item 208 it is recorded that Benjamin Holland gave his son Thomas Holland a power of attorney Recorded and proven in the court minutes of Jefferson County .
which would pettry well tell us that Benjamin Holland was in Jefferson County Tennessee at that time .

In a deposition given by Drucilla Holland wife of Thomas Holland , In a court hearing in Clay County Missouri in 1845. Drucilla states that Benjamin Holland Sr. had given land to his grandson Benjamin Holland the first born of Thomas and Drucilla Holland about the time that Benjamin Holland and Lydia Warren were married in 1808 in Greenville , Green Co. Tn. Drucilla Holland states that her husband Thomas Holland gave a young slave named David to his son Benjamin in place of the land that his Grandfather wanted to give him and the land later deeded to Thomas Holland in exchange of the boy David , We find a land grant from Benjamin Holland Sr.for 350 acrea to Thomas and John Holland in Cocke Co. Tennessee in 1810 .

On the 1830 census in Cocke County Tennessee , we find an old Gentleman between the age of 90 and 100 years of age in the household of John Holland which is believed to be Benjamin Holland Sr. who came To America from the Netherlands or England . John Holland died in 1829 , This could not have been the father-in law of John Holland , As John Holland son James C. Holland states that his maternal Grandfather was killed by the Indians while living in Virginia . It is felt that Benjamin Holland Sr , died between 1830 and the time the Holland's left Tennessee for Clay County Missouri in late 1833 -early 1834.

It is felt that there is a great possibility that Benjamin Holland Sr wife PRUITT may have been a sister of Sarah Pruitt who married David Boydston . As the Boystons and Hollands seem to be found together from Maryland , to Virginia , to Tennessee to Missouri .

The land sold to Swan Burnett when the Thomas Holland's families got ready to leave Tennessee for the Platt Purchase consisted of about 1200 acres , This did not include the John Holland land track on down the French Broad river , and this land was still lived on by John Holland wife Mary (Wise) Holland . Several of John Holland sons did not leave Del Rio untill after the Mother had passed away in the mid 1850's

There is a Holland Cemetery located on the old Holland home place which has at least 28 unmarked graves , marked only with plain field stones it is a great possibility that Benjamin Holland and his wife are buried here , John Holland and his wife as well as a son of Jacob Holland by the name of Thomas . The Cemetery is located near the North Carolina line from Newport take the Asherville Highway to Del Rio at Del Rio follow the signs to Rattlesnake Den Campgrounds . Continue on the same road past the Campgrounds for 1.4 1/2miles the Cemetery in on the right down a short path . Location found by Dusy Eddie and Nany O'Neil November 19, 1971 .
