Appointed with his brothers, juror fro Edgecombe Co., 25 Feb 1739-40;
petitioned for land in Northhampton Co. in 1743, and for 200 acres of
land 27 Nov 1744.

Another researcher has her as Elizabeth McCoy Howell, but it is
unclear if she originally was a Howell. Presumably not, especially
since her middle name is a surname.

NATHANIEL⁴ HOWELL SR., d. 1802, Greene Co., GA.

3. JOSEPH³ HOWELL SR. (JOHN², JOHN¹)¹ was born 1670¹, and died 1749 in Edgecombe Co., NC¹. He married (1) MARY MARGARET STARLING¹. She died in Cabarrus Co., NC¹. He married (2) MARGARET STARLING¹.

(Other researchers have the birth year as 1682-1711).
According to Clark Howell, the will was made 10 Jan 1749 and was
probated May 1750.
Clark Howell's document identifies him as simply Joseph Howell, but
I've added "Sr." to distinquish him from the other two Joseph Howells.
Children:
1. JOSEPH, JR., of whom further.
2. Mary, mentioned in her father's will.
3. Murphey, also mentioned in her father's will. An unusual name for
a woman in that century.
4. Thomas, inherited "Raton's Plantation" and land on Merrick's Creek
from his father.
5. Martha, mentioned in her father's will.
