TOWN OF GRANT RESIDENT PASSES ON.
Marion.
After an illness of a year endurance but only about 2 weeks of serious illness Mr. William F. Pockat of the town of Grant passed away at the home of his son on May 21st in the afternoon. He reached the age of 83 years having been born in Selchow, Pommern, Germany on Dec. 5, 1849. He came to this country while still an infant and settled with his parents at Mayville, Wisconsin. On Nov. 2, 1871 he was united in marriage with Wilhelmina Stark and made their home in the town of Grant. Eleven children were born to this union of which ten are living. Mrs. Pockat died about 13 years ago. The children now living are E.G. Pockat and Jule of Marion, Sam of Grant, Sophia, Mrs. Frank Schwede, Celia, Mrs. Emil Mevis of Marion, Ida, Mrs. Gust Zahn of Pella, Charley of Marion, Lydie, Mrs. Fred Dallum of Racine and Minnie, Mrs. Lenard Kapitzke of Grant, and Marie, Mrs. Rudolph Ehlert of Marion. He also leaves 27 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Besides 4 brothers, Jule Pockat of Royalton, Fred of Grant, Emil of Marion and Frank of town of Dupont. One sister, Mrs. August Wiesmann of Grant also survives.
Funeral services were held from the home and the St. John Lutheran church of Marion at 2:00 p.m. and burial was in the Greenleaf cemetery. The pallbearers were the following grandsons, Milton Mevis, Norman Mevis, Rubin Pockat, Gerhart Pockat, Stanley Pockat and Louis Pockat.
