Notes for Edmund Applin: 1841- Edmund and Elizabeth are living in Milton Abbas, Dorset with their two children Joseph and Elizabeth. Also living with them are John and Amelia Davis both aged 25 and Seth Davis. Also Benjamin Foster aged 20. (Davis was Edmund mother's family name) 1851- Edmund and Elizabeth are living in Winterbourne Whitechurch with their children. Living next door is Thomas and Mary Cheeseman (Edmund's sister) and Edmund's mother Elizabeth Applin. 1861- Edmund is living at Dolway, Winterbourne Whitechurch, Dorset. He is employed as a groom for a farm. By the time of the 1881 census Edmund was a widower living at Queens Square, Winterbourne , Dorset. He was living there with his daughter Sarah and his sister Mary Cheeseman. He was employed as a Groom for a stable. Edmund worked at Whatcombe House, Winterbourne Whitechurch, Dorset as a groom for the Playdell family.We visited the house in 2004 and spoke to a relative of the Playdells. Apparently the stables were burnt down many years ago but the mansion still stands with its acres of land.
