From Arthur Southwell in the early 1800's, through his son Robert and Grandson Henry Southall(it's here the surname change occurs), to Henry's 10 daughters! From one of those ten daughters we begin the Baxter Clan. Elizabeth Southall married Arthur Baxter. Arthur goes back up to his Father Alfred Baxter and beyond. One of Elizabeth's sons, John Baxter marries a Florence Brown and here begins my Grandparents on my Mothers side. Florence reigns from the Brown nee Hurd clan. In total we have 213 individuals, 73 marriages, 8 generations and 92 surnames - just some statistics.

Originally - Henry Southall was the Head Gardener on this property around the late 1800's. His wife, Ann Southall (nee Best) was the 'Senior Supervisor' of the staff/workers. Perhaps their daughters Alice, Elizabeth and Mary were raised there. The Lodge was their residence located down near the gate. The children used to open the gate for visitors, horses and carriages etc. Prince Edward once came through those gates.??Now -A Paradise setting hidden away in 100 acres of glorious English countryside, this Grade II listed building was built by Sir Hugo Meynell for his wife Emily Charlotte, daughter of Viscount Halifax, between 1860 to 1869.This graceful residence has been lovingly restored to its former glory and now offers the unique combination of traditional elegance and first class friendly service alongside the facilities of a superb modern Spa Resort. The spacious grounds has lakes and wildlife in abundance, formal gardens and Italian Roof Terrace with water features, exotic plants, and beautiful flowers as well as Tennis Courts, a 9 Hole Par 3 Golf Course, Practice Area & Driving range with PGA Professional, Croquet, Boules, and Archery.

- The Spanish Connection (1 KB)
In the days of Franco - the Royal Family in Spain was Stuart. From Lizzie Dansie (nee Southall)- initially a letter written by Phyllis Wilson (nee Baxter) the story goes like this - One of the family members (? possibly a sister of Alfred Baxter) went to Spain and married a cousin (?) who was a wealthy man, name of Stuart. They lived in Madrid. She wrote to a cousin (? - if a member of Alfreds line, it could be written to Henry Southall's brother ?) telling him she didn't have long to live and if a member of the family didn't go over so that she could give them her money, the Government would claim it when she died. But the man she sent the letter to (?) was also a very sick man. He gave the letter to his daughter (?) and told her to burn it, but she didn't. Somehow, the Dancies and Jack(? - Jack who?) knew about it and I (Phyllis Wilson nee Baxter) tried to find out about the money. Mrs Dansie (Lizzy nee Southall) paid some lawyer to investigate but was told - no way would they ever get any money. The Duchess or Duchy of Alba crops up. Was she the lady in Spain? This is the end of Phyllis' letter. Read Text Document regarding Alba's. - Noble Family of Alba re Duke of Berwick-Upon-Tweed (1 KB)
