WILLIAM STANLEY came from Birmingham, England in 1831, to teach people how to make brass. His wife,Sarah JAMES and son, James, came in 1832 and settled in Waterbury, CT. Shortly after they moved to Bloomfield, NJ, where William was killed. James married a Sara Jane CLARK and they had: Charlotte Ann, , Charles, George Irving, William James, Frederick Ellsworth, Ida Josephine, AND Joseph Lee (Joseph was my grandfather). All the men worked at Scovills in Waterbury, CT. Joseph worked there for 52 years, retiring in the 1940's. I don't know anything about any of the brothers or their descendants except William had a daughter named ADA who married last name of JOY and they had a son, WILLIAM JOY in West Hartford, CT.. Other names I'm researching: After William died, Sarah married a David SHIPLEY and they had two sons: Alfred and Ralph, I know that Charlotte married an Alex BUCHANAN, and Ida married Frank Edward CURTIS. I'd like to know more about these people and their descendants. I would also like to know more about the ancestors of William and Sarah. Sarah did have a brother, David JAMES who came from England about 1831 and was a pearl button maker, settling in Vineland, NJ. |
