Family Tree of James Walton Hootsell, Natchez, MS

Updated March 17, 2008

Hootsell Family descendents from John, Joseph, Mike, William's wives of late 1700's Mississippi Territory early settlers. Adams County court records of land grants include Spanish Governor's documents of Jemima "Hutsel" and children.

Spelling of "Hutzel, Hutsel, Hootsel, Hootselle" are mostly the same family. Finding some children adopted by cousins due to death or divorce. U.S. War for Southern Independence caused family splits, with deliberate spelling changes to deny related to them damn yankees. During wartime hysteria, some Hootsell spelling change due to our German blood! Cross referenced Birth, Baptism, Church Records, Marriage, Burial, Military Service, Land Owners, Fraternal Organizations, Head Stones confirmed some identities. Difficult to confirm some, slow process, one branch at a time.

Seeking early Natchez pictures of Corine Hotel, managed by Alonzo Griffin Hootsell, son of John Thomas Hootsell, Jr.(Confederate casualty during battle of Fort Davidson, near Pilot Knob, Missouri, Sept. 27, 1864). Connections found for Hootsell/Griffin/Little/McClure/Lanehart/Dawson/Stowers/Dix/Withington/Mayes/Swayza/McCormack/Irish/Young/Bahin/Cross/Sessions/Howard and finding more. Appreciate All Leads. James Hootsell.
