I am researching the family names of Howe, Graham, King, McIlwain, Pawlett, Huxley, Attwood and Wright. Jacob and Jane Howe were born in County Queens, Ireland in 1795 and 1798 respectively. They settled in Caledon, Ontario about 1830 and died in Bruce County - Jane in 1871 and Jacob in 1885. They had four sons, Joshua, Joseph, Jacob and John.
Joshua's daughter Jane Howe married James Graham in 1873 and they homesteaded in Minto, Manitoba in 1881. James' parents were Samuel Graham and Sarah Jane Kelly who emigrated from Ireland about 1840. He was from County Antrim and she from County Down. The family homesteaded near Mitchell, Ontario, Logan Township, Perth County.
Michael King was born about 1821 and he married Mary Gorman. Ancestors of one or both of these were United Empire Loyalists and probably came to Canada from Pennsylvania. One of their sons was Robert L. King, born 1848 in Kingston, Ontario who married Mary McIlwain, born 1852 in Bluevale, Ontario. They ended up in Boissevain, Manitoba.
Joseph Pawlett, born 1809, married Sophia Fairhurst. His parents may have been Robert and Mary Pawlett. They lived in Lincolnshire and Lancashire England. Their descendants included Joseph Pawlett, born 1869 and Charles, born 1870, both of whom moved to Canada in the early 1900s.
Joseph married Minnie Huxley, born 1867 in Chesire. Her unmarried sisters were Annie and Alice, one of whom was an artist of some renown at the time. Their parents were Henry and Annie (Chester) Huxley.
Joseph's mother was Emma Attwood Wright, daughter of Duncan Wright and Elizabeth Attwood. She was probably born in Newcastle on Tyne in 1845. Emma had three husbands, Charles Pawlett, Charles Leatherbarrow (later shortened to Barrow) and Archibald McKinnon. She died in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1917.
Although I already have considerable information on various names linked with these people, I am anxious to expand the knowledge. If any of the names I have given are familiar to anyone, I would be happy to learn more and I will willingly pass on what I know.
