| William Kane Hope was born in 1814 in Virginia. He married Eva Wert (who was born in Pennsylvania) in 1846 in Crawford Co.,Ohio. His descendants (children: Valerius Peter, Mary Barbara, Lydia Jane, Margaret and Virginia) lived in VanWert, Ohio, and later in Newton County, Indiana.William's brother, Valerius Peter Hope, also lived and married in Ohio during this same time period. Current research has not revealed the names of William's parents, nor the location in Virginia where they may have lived. Family lore suggests yet another generation back came from England during the Revolutionary War. The story told is that two brothers came to the Colonies, one who fought on the side of the British, and one who joined the Colonists in the Revolution. Our family descends from the brother who stayed in the States and fought on the Colonial side. Another story is that we are distant relatives of the comedian, Bob Hope. No facts confirm this story. |
