The HAPS, HAPPES, HOPPIS CONNECTIONS

The farthest back I have been able to trace the Hoppis family ancestors is to Hans Haps who was born about 1550 presumably in Switzerland. The generations I have found starting with Hans Haps are as follows:

d. Oct 4, 1688 Brombach, Odenwald, Palatine, Germany
(He seems to be the one who changed the spelling of the family name.)
(6)Johann Michael Happes b. Aug 25,1688 in Brombach
d. Dec 12,1750 Altnuedorf, Odenwald, Palatine, Germany
(7)Johann Michael Happes b. 1722 in Altnuedorf
d. 1787 in Penn TWP Northampton, Pennsylvania, USA
(He and his brother Georg were the first of the family to emmigrate to America.)
(8)John Hoppis b. May, 1767 Oley, Berks Co, Pennsylvania
d. Oct 6, 1833 Wheelersburg, Scioto Co, Ohio
(He appears to be the first one to spell the family name "Hoppis".)
