Jane (Jean) Duff35, 36 was born Abt. 1770 in Scotland, and died Aft. 1838 in Kirkwood Twp., Belmont Co., OH. She married Robert HOPPER on Abt. 1788 in Ireland.
Notes for Jane (Jean) Duff: All the Hoppers that were interviewed in America claimed we were direct descendants of the Earl of Fife, Scottish, but the Fifes were in Ireland also. This would be on the Duff name. Jean Duff was so proud of the name that she requested at her death that her descendants bear the name, which they continue to do. The Hoppers of Co. Down, Ireland were not traced since the vital statistics were destroyed in Dublin by fire in 1922. Since records were often kept in Parishes and then sent to Dublin "for safe keeping" there is now no official record of them.
Jane's husband, Robert Hopper (Happer) died in the War of 1812, Dec 1812. Jane Duff Hopper then married Hugh Lyons on May 2, 1813 in Belmont Co., OH. They were married by Joseph Andrews. Her 2nd husband, Hugh Lyons, died on Nov 1, 1836.
