William moved to Superior, NE and was listed as a blacksmith. He was fondly called "Judge" from his work with the police department. He died in Albuquerque while staying with his daughter, Agnus, following the death of his wife.

Civil War Veteran, Union Company E, 62nd Regiment, O.V.I. Company E was organized at Somerton and rendezvoused at Camp Goddard. This company was mustered into service October 16, 1861. William W. Hopper was promoted to Corporal February 1, 1864; reinlisted: served for three months in the 17th Ohio Regiment. Sources: Ohio Civil War Records.

Death: Notice Albuquerque Morning Journal, 11 Dec 1926. French Mortuary handles funeral, train No 2 to Nebraska for interment. Died Dec 10, 1926, age given as 90 yr 27 day 2 mo. Born Oct 13, 1836. Nebraska: Superior Express, Thursday Dec 16, 1926: Phillipi undertaking parlor held services, survived by the sister of his wife, Mrs. Trumbull of Superior. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Called Judge Hopper, a former Police Judge.

William Waters Hopper frequently had verses printed in local papers. He wrote a long poem about the death of his brother, James Lewis Hopper, called "Our Brother in Heaven". He wrote the poem while in Camp in the Army of the Potomac near Richmond on the news of the death of his brother James Lewis Hopper of the 25th Regiment O.V.I. at the Battle of Cross Keys, Virginia.
