Obit from Anne Brunt: Died on Sunday morning March 22, 1874 of pneumonia. Milton Standley. In the 42nd year of his age. The subject of this sketch was born in this county. Having passed his early life here while schools were few and educational advantages were incomplete, he felt the want of an education and that feeling prevented him from taking the lead among his fellow-citizens, which his solid common sense, his sterling integrity and his sound judgment fairly entitled him to do. Naturally of a quiet, retiring disposition, he hesitated in putting forward his opinion among men, preferring to follow rather than to lead. Within a year or two, however, he had come to take a more active part in the dutiies of citizenship, and the church, the public school, and all the other institutions with which the genius of progress is destined found in him a strong, earnest friend and
champion. It is rarely, indeed, that any community is called upon to mourn the loss of a worthier citizen, and Carroll county has not many worthier than he to lose. In him we have lost a generous, public spirited and intelligent citizen, his neighbors a kindly and pleasant friend, and his family mourn the irreparable loss of a husband and father whose memory will remain fragrant of loving acts and of thoughtfull, earnest and hopeful words in all the years of their affliction. He died as he lived, a sincere and earnest Christian, and his pathway through the valley of the shadow of death was cheered by the eternal hope of a blessed immortality.

Funeral Service took place at the residence of the deceased and were conducted by the Rev. J. M. Goodson. He had known the deceased from birth to death. He remarked that this was the fourth member of the family that had been called hence within a month. Burial at the family graveyard near the Trotter schoolhouse.
