      53. John M.3 Standley (Lucy2, John1) was born 1834, and died 1861 in Carroll Co., MO. He married (1) Margart E. Hendricks. She was born March 1844 in Henry Co., IN, and died in Carroll Co., MO. He married (3) Margart Elizabeth Gregory October 18, 1857 in Carroll Co., MO. She died 1877 in Carroll Co., MO.

      55. Dicy Ann3 Standley (Uriah2, John1) was born April 23, 1833 in Carroll Co., MO, and died May 23, 1906 in Carroll Co., MO. She married (1) James Davis Caskey November 20, 1849. She married (2) John William Miles March 16, 1862 in Carroll Co., MO, son of Dorsey Miles and Nancy Applebury. He was born February 22, 1842 in Memphis, Shelby, TN, and died December 27, 1928 in Tina, Carroll Co., MO.

Notes for John William Miles:
His parents were Dorsey Miles and Nancy Applebury. They moved to MO
about 1845 locating on a farm near Coloma.

He was a member of the Rush Chapel Methodist Church South.

He served in the Civil War under Cpt. William Henderson and Cpt. Beatty who were at that time prominent Carroll county citizens.


Children of John L. Miles remember Grandpa Miles (John William Miles) living with Uncle Otis and Aunt Elsie. Frances doesn't remember too much about him except he was short and had a beard.

Laila remembers they liked living close to Grandpa and Grandma Miles. "One thing I remember is their well going dry, so Dad took water from our well up the hill to them. Some of the family caught Frances about half way up the hill with a cup of water. I think she was about 3 years old. She was taking Grandpa and Grandma a drink. She had spilled about half the water."

Frances liked the cookies Grandma Lydia Miles gave her.

Carlos remembers, "Grandpa living on top of the hill, we living down the hill, Uncle Frank living over and down the hill, and Uncle Otis living down the hill to the right."

His obituary says he was a confederate during the Civil War, but the National Archives has a John William Miles under the same commanding officers listed as Union. Some soldiers did fight on both sides, but he married a daughter of Standley family who fought for the Union. His obituary is in this book along with the jackets of service records from National Archives.

  Notes for William Spencer Caskey:
He was a half brother to John L. Miles. He and his wife, Belle, had no biological children but raised two nieces, Myrtle and Dosia Miles.

He was a generous man. Frances got a watch from him when she was eleven. When she was younger she was given a dress with matching panties.

He gave Bertha and Laila wrist watches when they graduated from High School.
