My family origins, on my father side, are old Dutch and Englishfrom the Long Island NY, NJ and CT. I am from the Barnabas Horton Line. The majority of the last 7 gernerations are from the Oyster Bay and Huntington, LI areas.
So far I have entered over 11,700 names in my tree. This includes side lines. I use documented sources for my research .I am am memeber of the NY G& B, Oysterbay and Huntington and German genealogy Societies. I own the two volume set of Stoutenberg's History of The Dutch Congrataion of Oyster Bay and have been trying to enter it all into my tree.
On my mother side is German, coming here in th 1880's. I have just begun to research this area. Schaefer, Huse, Schuldtz, Kagel Both sets of Great Grandparents were from near Frankfurt in the towns of Damstadt and Wexler.
I am still searching for missing pieces on my father sides such as: Jospeh Horton of Peekskill b abt 1728 in Westchester cty his son Nathan was from Newton and Oyster bay Long Island.
I also need help with A Stephen White from Huntington and Conn. born about 1713.. Plus a few others.......
I find it very fascinating finding out about my roots. I have found out that my grandparents were related before marrying from old Dutch lines and that I was related to my Step_father H. Vandyke and also my sister-in-law V. Valentine..before their marriages. I am Gloria Vanderbilts 9th cousin. It just goes on and on.
Well I hope you have enjoyed my info and looking forward to hearing from people to exchange information.
Rgds Jeffrey V. Horton
