Descendants of William Blaydes




Generation No. 1


1. WILLIAM1 BLAYDES was born 1750 in Spotsylvania Co. Virginia, and died October 04, 1785 in Spring Grove Plantation, Spotsylvania Co., Virginia. He married MARY ANN COLEMAN February 05, 1770 in Spotsylvania Co. Virginia, daughter of John Coleman and Eunice Hawes.

Notes
       William Blaydes was the first of this family to come to Spotsylvania County Virginia. Records indicate that he continued to operate a plantation in New Kent Co. as well as one in Spotsylvanis Co. during the Revolutionary War. His date of birth is not known; however he witnessed a deed on Oct 13, 1770, so he was probably born before 1750. On Feb. 5, 1770 William Blaydes married Mary Ann Coleman daughter of John and Eunice Hawes Coleman of Spotsylvanis County. (Information on the Coleman and Hawes families may be found on PP.416-420 &440 of Marshall Wigfield's History of Carolina Co. Va.but there are many errors.) It has been proven that William Blaydes gave assistance durnig the Revolutionary War by furnishing supplies. A copy of the Public Service Claimand certificates : Court Booklet p, 4,18,21,40 Cert.
       William Blaydes built his home called "Spring Grove" on his plantation in Spotsylvania Co. There all his children were born including his youngest William Hawes Blaydes who was born 4 mo. and 4 days after his death... He died here at "Spring Grove" the 4th day of October, 1785. This home remained in the family until after the Civil War.
       In Will Book "E" pg.706..... Williams real estate was divided among his widow and children in 1787, and here the names of his children are given as Nancy, John, Mary, Elizabeth, Nicey, William H. and Fanny Harris. The property consisted in the aggreate of approximately one thousand acres and was located on the Northanna River, then known as the Pamunkey, at a point where the East-North-East River enters the Northanna. A plat of his property is recorded in Deed Book ""E" at p.900.
       In Will Book "E" , P.902, Spotsylvania Co. Va....Division of the Estate of William Blaydes, Deceased in 1787 as recorded: " The widow having had her dower set apart by a former order of court, and in order to ascertain the quantities and boundries of land we were assisted by Mr.. Benjamin Tompkins, surveyor, whoes survey and plots of the several tracts of land here unto annexed and numbered we pray may be admitted and made part of our report... The shares are as follows by lotts:
       Lott No.1 contains 129 acres, and slaves Austen, Milly, Charity, and Judy to NANCY BLAYDES.
       Lott No. 2 contains 129 acres and with Julius, Fanny, Sucky, and Fanny to JOHN BLAYDES.
       Lott No. 3 contain 60 acres with a grist mill and all appurtenances        
        thereto and slaves Levi, Betty, and Jeffrey to MARY BLAYDES.
       Lott No. 4 contains 150 aces with slaves Silvia Bell, Brown, Moses and Great Hanna's Sally to ELIZABETH BLAYDES.
       Lott No. 5 contains 110 acres with slaves Godfrey, Mims, and         Tammay to NICEY BLAYDES.
       Lott No. 6 contains 90 acres with slaves Mary , Patience, and Little Hanna's Sally to WILLIAM BLAYDES.
       Lott No. 7 contains 100 acres with slaves Peter, Little Hannah, Gabriel and Phillip to MRS. HARRIS( Frances Blaydes married Schuyler Harris of Albermarle Co. Va.)
       This is a full division of all the Estate of the deceased William Blaydes that was produced to us. Signed:
