2. EDWARD² GREGORY (JOSEPH¹) was born April 22, 1777 in Macklenburg Co., Virginia, and died February 11, 1842 in Macklenburg Co., Virginia. He married FRANCES SHELTON 1807, daughter of GODFREY SHELTON and MOLLY WILLIAMS.

Edwrd Gregory was born in Mecklenburg Co. Va, were five years earlier his father purchased land in the northwest corner of the county, in the Finneywood Creek section. The Gregory place lay on the south side of the South Meherrin River (he dividing line between the counties of Mecklenburg and Lunenburg) and a short distance east of the county of Charlotte. Because of the location, there were neighbors and childhood friends in the three counties..
As a young adult, Edward apparently lived the bachelor life, farming with his father, and no doubt assisted at the mill on the river. .......It appears there is no extant record of Edward's marriage,which occurred when he was around 30. There is no evidence to suggest that Edward was married more than once. His
