Notes for Colonel Amos Horne: I had a tough time finding Colonel Amos in the 1930 census but after considerable searching I realized that he was listed on Ancestry.com as Colonel Harn instead of Horn. He is living next to Gilbert McInnish with Charner McInnish on the other side of Gilbert and Willie Prickett on the other side of Charner. Colonel's wife is listed as Emmer and Amos is living with them. I had an even worse time trying to find them in the 1910 census and finally had to do a page by page search of the Clay County, Al census and finally found them in Brownville.
May 29, 2007 I talked with Dad today about Colonel Amos moving back to Alabama. He states that his dad (James Elam) and Aunt Margie was born in Arkansas but Uncle Bram was born in Alabama making the move for James and family between 1890 and 1892. I later found a reference that Bram was also born in Arkansas. However census data seems to indicate that all the children were born in Alabama. Only one exception is the 1930 census where the enumeration wrote in Alabama for James Elam then crossed it out and wrote in Arkansas. All of Aunt Margies' census lists her being born in Alabama (1900, 1910, 1920), and all of Brams state Alabama.
Dad says that his father remembers the move back to Alabama which I would find hard to believe for a child only 2 or 3 years old.
