Notes for Jesse Little: Lena Schoggins told me that Uncle Jim Lee raised the Little girls and you can see JB LEE in Wesobulga in the 1880 census with 2 nieces, Matilda and Susan living 2 doors down from Rufus Dawkins family. We don't know what happend to the girls parents. Ms Schoggins speculates that they drowned. In 1860 Jesse Little and wife Martha are in Tallapoosa, Al with the girls Hannah, Frances, Rachel, Rebecca, Matilda, and Elizabeth. I only learned Jesse Little's name recently. McDaniel's chapel cemetary has Matilda and her husband Rufus Dawkins and it names Matilda's parents as Jesse Little and Martha Williams. 1870 the family is still in Dudleyville, Tallapoosa, Al but Martha isn't there so the presumption is that she has died already. If you look in the 1870 census in Dudleyville where Jesse is, 2 doors down is a Lewis Phillips married to a Hannah that would be the right age for this Hannah. In fact JoAn at
says that this Hannah is our Hannah Little and indeed that she married Lewis Phillips. Mother says that one of the Little girls married a Sims and another married a Phillips. I have not found which of the other girls married a Sims. Susan doesn't show up in the 1860 census but she would have been 5 yo then and her whereabouts can only be speculation. There is a Rebecca Sims with husband in Newton, Dale Alabama in the 1900 census that would be the right age for Rebecca Little if she was the one married to a Sims. There is some discrepancy about the birth years in the 1880 census that puts Matilda and Susan 10 years or so younger than they need to be so I am a bit suspect that this JB LEE is accurate (particularly in the it doesn't list Matilda and Susan's last name as Little) AND considering that both girls would have been old enough to be married by then anyway. However the proximity to Rufus Dawkins can't be ignored as Matilda goes on to marry him.
I do not know yet the fate of Rachel, Rebecca, Elizabeth or Frances or who they married.
There are 2 land patents granted to a Jesse Little in 1860 in the Huntsville area but Jesse is in Tallapoosa, Al in 1860 so I think this must be a different Jesse Little.
