Researching my mother's GIROUX-JOYAL dit LAFRENIERE ancestors, all of whom were born in Quebec. The JOYAL's emigrated to Rhode Island, then Fall River, MA c. 1868; the GIROUX's, to Fall River c. 1890. I have not been able to locate many of the descendants of my grandmother Esther LAFRENIERE's siblings. Some of them may have continued to use the name JOYAL or JOYELLE rather than the dit name LAFRENIERE adopted by my great-grandfather after he emigrated to the U.S. Some of my grandfather Emile GIROUX's siblings returned to Canada (AB) before 1920.

I'd love to hear from anyone with connections or who would like to exchange data. And, please, do let me know if you find errors! On the other hand, just ignore any stray birthdates that show the year 1000 or 2000. I sometimes use that as a "place marker" while I search for the parents. I use "markers" as well for birth dates. A born "after" date is simply the date of the parents' marriage. Born "about" is an actual cited date based on some source or calculated from the age at death.

I've added spouses to the Index of Names but please note that Family Treemaker reports list only the "preferred spouse". Many of my ancestors married two -- or even three - times; unfortunately, only one spouse is listed. If you are interested, I may have data on the "other spouse" or you may find it alphabetically on the list of names. With this in mind, I've added a "Marriage Report" which lists only names and marriage dates.

As for the spelling of the names, I have used the form most commonly found in the red Drouin and the PRDH and tried to cross-reference them in the list.

The Ahnentafel of ancestors is based on my mother and includes descendants of Jean GIROUX and Marguerite QUILLERON who married c. 1622 in St-Jean-de-Mortagne, France and those of Jacques JOYAL and Gertrude MORAL who married 1676 in Trois-Rivieres. Sources for the data appear as endnotes. The two lines are so intertwined (aren't all of our QUEBECOIS ancestors that way?) that it seemed simpler to keep them together. Separate reports list the descendants of Jean GIROUX and Etienne JOYAL who are in my database.

Related lines of interest include: ABRAHAM, AMIOT, BADAILLAC, BIBEAU, BOUCHARD, BOUCHER, BROUILLARD, CADIEU, CARON, CARTIER, CLOUTIER, COTE, CREVIER, DANIS, DENEAU, DESPRES, FORCIER, GASNIER, GIGUERE, HERTEL, LANCTOT, LANGLOIS, LECLERC, LEFEBVRE, LONGTIN, LUSSIER, MARTIN, METRAS, MIVILLE, PARE, PELLETIER, PINSONNEAU, RAYMOND, ROUSSEAU, ROUSSIN, SEVESTRE, TREMBLAY, TRUDEAU -- well, let's just say "EVERYBODY".
