This family tree traces the descendants of William Shumaker, who was born in Ohio in 1821. At some point in his life, William moved to Fairfield, IA, where he died in 1866 after contracting a disease in the Civil War. According to the U.S. Census of 1900, Benjamin Shumaker and family was living in Grove, Shelby County, Iowa. After 1900 the family moved to Miner County, South Dakota to a farm located near Carthage and Argonne, SD We know that Edward Shumaker was born 1881 in Decatur, IA, and Frank Shumaker in Quitman, MO in 1883. We also know that Frank was married in 1908 at Howard, SD and Edward in 1909 at Orchard, NE.
