| This family research began as a quest for the origin of out family name. According to a Norwegian Family Book for Aurland my G Grandfather's name was Knut Knutsen Haugen Osterbo. A patryomic name archtypical of the sons being named after the first names of the father. Knut was a very common name in the 18th century leaving one with many people with that name. The last two names appear to be farm names with the last being identified in the Aurland [Urland in USA] Book. True to form the book states he gave his son his first name but for reasons unknown, but frequently done, his son Knut took the name Hougo for his surname. To my knowledge this name could have come from a farm place. town, village etc. In conclusion the search is still going on. |
