Find Family
The Houlditch surname seems to hail from England, the Devin area. Ancestors arrived in the US through South Carolina where one branch changed the spelling to Holditch. My family branch settled in Alabama by the 1880's. Another rare name which is being researched is Mehlfelt. This German group settled in Mont Alto, Pa. via New Jersey by the 1860's. A change in the name from Meehlveld occurred in Pa. wtih several spellings appearing on the gravestones. My great grandfather,Franklin Stewart, later moving to Washington, DC to take a government job at the Navy Yard. Any further information on these names would be appreciated and I am willing to share what I have found.
