* The Troillet Family in England since 1807*

Updated September 6, 2000

The Troillet family has been in the UK since 1807 as far as my researches show so far. John Troillet is the first of the line to show up in records. He appears in Bainse's Lancashire as living in Pork Shambles in Manchester. This strongly implies he was a butcher. He next appears in another Trade Directory as a Horse Dealer, and finally in 1825 as Victualler and Livery Stable Keeper of the Garrick's Head Inn in Fountain Street, Manchester. He married twice. First, to Sarah Wetton in 1807; she died in 1816 at the age of 36. They had four children, but only one, James, survived beyond infancy. He married and had issue. John then married Martha Pendleton in September of the same year. They had two sons of whom only Edmund may have survived to adulthood. Both wives may have been the daughters of Innkeepers that John had business dealings with. Glad to have joined the community, happy to share information about the family whose origins are in mainland Europe, probably Switzerland. My branch of the family tree has been posted on the World Family Tree under John Troillet 1807. I was born a Troillet, but changed the name to my mother's maiden name.
